    Mini-Biography
    from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
The crafty Sergeant O'Rourke of "F Troop" (1965-67) began his acting career on a lark, coaxed into trying out for films while vacationing in California in 1940. He made his debut in William Wyler's The Westerner supporting Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan, and toiled as a contract player in many Columbia films (mostly Bs) of the early and mid 1940s. Tucker, a huge, solidly built man with wavy blond hair and inviting blue eyes, often played nasty, brutal heavies in Westerns and action films. (His most memorable: the Marine with a chip on his shoulder who squares off with John Wayne in 1949's Sands of Iwo Jima made for his longtime home studio, Republic.) His extroverted personality lent itself to broad comedic characterizations, but he seldom displayed that aspect of his talent until being signed to star in the TV comedy series. Also in many telefilms of the 1970s and early 1980s, he was reteamed with "F Troop" partner Larry Storch for the Saturday morning kids' series "The Ghost Busters" (1975-76).

Forest will always be remembered as the man who squared up to Duke,
in Sands of Iwo Jima .
Equally so, in Chisum the man who came to grief on the horns,
after once again, squaring up to Duke.

  • What a difference between Mr. Tucker's character in Sands of Iwo Jima, and his part in F Troop!

    Mrs. C :angel1:

  • I liked Forrest Tucker in both Chisum and Sands Of Iwo Jima

    My favourite being Chisum

In Chisum there was a great fight scene between him and Duke, he gave Duke a hard time, he is fairly big fella himself

  • I grew up with F Troop. I keep noticing these guys had 3 or 4 wives, acting lifestyle must take it's toll.

Greetings from North of the 49th
