John Ford’s Stagecoach was perfectly sandwiched between the eight films and John Wayne’s portrayal of the outlaw gunfighter, The Ringo Kid, made him a superstar and ended Wayne’s Stony Brooke run… Livingston was reehired as Brooke and went on to make fourteen more Mesquiteers films and for an incredible total of twenty-nine.

  • These releases are coming thick and fast! What with the Criterion 50% off sale and the Olive releases I know what you mean Paula about an aching wallet! Thanks for the updates as ever.

"Pour yourself some backbone and shut up!"

  • More!!!!

Another April release -- I just have this artwork now but should have specifics and bigger versions of the art in day or so.

I think this is the last of the Three Mesquiteers titles. If you had told me a year ago I'd have a complete collection of the John Wayne Three Mesquiteer films and The Barbarian and the Geisha on Blu-ray by April 2013, but I wouldn't have She Wore a Yellow Ribbon or Red River or They Were Expendable or The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance or The Shootist on Blu-ray...that's just sad. :)

  • And yet another John Wayne release in April from Olive! Just the small size artwork for now.

Note to Taka (hope you're reading this): I saw your comment on my Ben Johnson page but I can't find you here at the JWMB among the list of members. Please send me a private message or you can e-mail me at [email protected]

    Thanks!!

  • Damn that is truly amazing! I cannot wait to see all of these.
To date I've only watched the first 3 blu ray releases of the Mesquiteers series and all 3 were wonderful.
With all these other releases coming think and fast, I'll have to focus my film buying addiction purely on Olive films!

  • Wow, even John's 50-minute B-westerns from the 30's are getting the Blu-ray treatment. That's pretty impressive.

Have any of these titles previously been released on VHS and/or DVD?

    SYNOPSIS:
Newly re-mastered in HD - one of John Wayne's most beloved classics co-starring his beautiful Wake of the Red Witch co-star Gail Russell. Angel and the Badman is also the first film produced by the legendary star and one of the loveliest westerns ever filmed.

Wayne stars as Quirt Evans a notorious gunfighter who's wounded and sheltered by a Quaker family. Attracted to the family's angelic daughter, the hard-bitten Wayne undergoes a slow and subtle character transformation, but is still obsessed with killing Laredo Stevens (Bruce Cabot), the man who murdered his foster father.

Harry Carey plays Wistful McClintock, a single-minded sheriff who's determined to bring Evans and Stevens to justice. Entrusting the direction to screenwriter James Edward Grant (Donovan's Reef), Wayne bolstered Grant's debut by tapping veteran Yakima Canutt (G-Men Never Forget) to handle the hard-riding second unit direction.

  • I'm glad to see Angel and the Badman getting the treatment. I love this film, but all copies I own are dark and scratchy.
