    UNIVERSAL FILM MANUFACTURING COMPANY

    INFORMATION FROM IMDb

    Plot Summary
Jim Kyneton ( Harry Carey ), after leaving a notorious outlaw gang,
joins the Texas Rangers and is forced to track down his former friends
and his half brother Nick ( Vesta Pegg ),
who have been robbing a gold mine.
After he reluctantly captures them and locks them in a deserted shack,
Roseen ( Claire Anderson ), a dance hall girl, who Jim saved from Buck Soutar ( Joe Harris ),
a saloon keeper, sets them free and, because Jim has refused her advances,
sends the police a telegram saying that Jim accepted money to let them loose.
Suspected of remaining a crook, Jim finds them again and captures all but Nick,
who, rather than be disgraced, rides his horse off a cliff to his death.
After Jim tells his mother ( Jennie Lee ) that Nick died like a man,
Jim breaks the news to Nick's supposed sweetheart Betty ( Gloria Hope ),
an orphan Jim's mother has raised, and whom Jim has silently loved.
To Jim's happy surprise, Betty says she has loved him all along, but thought that he loved Roseen.

31 July 2015 | by Pamela Short (Canada)

This 1919 silent western/drama was produced by The Universal Film Manufacturing Company and directed by John Ford, starring Harry Carey. Sadly, Rider of the Law now remains a lost silent film.
