Into the town of Broken Buckle rides a stranger who threatens to open a new gambling establishment to rival the one operated by Denver Red ( Charles Le Moyne ) and Headlight Whipple ( Joe Harris ).

The latter's sister, Zoe ( Helen Ferguson ), who disapproves of her brother's saloon and is the local schoolteacher and owner of a notions store, tries to interest The Stranger ( Harry Carey ) in reforming the vice-ridden community. Pretending to ignore her, he opens his hall as a new school and library. He settles his score with the partners by gambling for their lives, and after their cowardly escape he wins Zoe.

This 1921 silent western/drama was produced by The Universal Film Manufacturing Company,
directed by Jack Ford (John Ford), starring Harry Carey and Helen Ferguson.

Sadly, The Freeze-Out now remains a lost silent film.
