  • …I have only seen the beginning portion of this Western, and am on a mission to learn its title, so i can watch the rest of it:

The film starts off at some point at/near the beginning; a pastoral preacher from back out East somewhere (OH, VG, or WV as i recall) there on a Sunday, preaching in a little church. Afterwards, He goes outside and catches a slave driver kind of warden or something, beating prisoners who can barely walk (from being tired) as He's escorting them through town on His horse; so the Pastor confronts the mean “man” about it, and ends up getting clubbed in the head Himself, as the mean man rides off with the prisoners... and then rather quickly gets back up -with some help from bystanders- after "coming to", and ends up being more or less “okay”. …

... Then some time later, the Pastor goes to the bar in town, and finds a prostitute who He befriends (on tense "socio-political" grounds; surrounding Her current position and occupation with those who own the bar.)

…Then after some convincing, She agrees to move in with Him, and his [right hand maid/assistant lady] (who is a rather “big-boned” kind and jovial sort of lady); to become educated, and lead, in His words, “a more productive/fulfilling life”.

Not long after, things are going well and she gets settled in. Then the evil guy at the bar who owns it, comes back and takes Her away, and forges a note so the Pastor would think that She just left, (that way the Pastor wouldn’t come looking for Her or whatever.) However, the Pastor remembers that the hooker can't write, So He goes to the bar, and forces a confession out of Her, that it was actually THE EVIL BAR OWNER GUY, who wrote the note.

Then the Pastor and the bar owner (who wrote the note), get into a violent squabble… … (TA DAAA!) ; the Pastor wins the fight; but then that very next Sunday at church, in front of the congregation, He resigns His post “behind the pulpit”; because He did not turn the other cheek when the bar owner guy punched Him, (stating that; if He is not able to follow the law of God, He should not be leading a congregation.)

… Then it comes to a scene of him getting ready to leave and everything, and people naturally trying to convince Him to stay (cuz they all really like Him.) …

And then that’s where I had to leave. …please help me if You can!

PS: This film really "struck a nerve" with me. I would really love to see what happens with the rest of it... classic simple tales. The Goody, old-school Entertainment, of years ago.
