John Wayne was born Marion Robert Morrison on May 26, 1907 to parents Clyde & Mary Brown Morrison. When Duke's brother, Robert, was born on December 8, 1912, Marion's middle name was change to Michael.
Duke was born in Winterset, Iowa. Young Duke moved to Glendale, California. He attended USC (University of Southern California), majoring in law. He was a memeber of Sigma Chi Fraturnity. He played on the USC football team on scholarship. During the summer after his freshman year in college, he worked as a prop man at Fox Studios. He met there the famous John "Pappy" Ford. They became life long friends.
