The local horse race is depicted very well. The usual bonhomie prevails. Mary Kate (Maureen O'Hara) hangs her hat in the pole for her admirer to pick it up at the conclusion of the race. Shaun Tate (John Wayne) who is courting Mary wins the race but ignores the hat much to Mary's chagrin. The film bagged two Academy awards including Best Director for John Ford.
