Hello Rob I have this information re Brown of Harvard “…among them Francis X. Bushman (for whom Duke had doubled in Brown of Harvard while still a USC student)” Page 118 “Brown of Harvard (MGM 1925)…Duke cited this as his first appearance on film, a collegiate football picture in which he doubled on the playing field for Francis X. Bushman jr. Pexy Eckles was an extra in the grandstand scenes. Neither received billing” Page 389 Shepherd, Donald and Slatzer, Robert withGrayson, Dave. Duke the Lif…

  • Quote from RoughRider: “I am surprised Universal would say they do not own the copyright to Adventure's End. Universal Pictures Co., Inc. renewed the film's copyright on September 21, 1965 (renewal number R368573), about two months before the initial 28-year expiration. It could be that the person at Universal who phoned you is simply wrong, or legal claim to the film was subsequently sold outright to another entity (e.g. a television distributor).” As Bob got this email as the Universal contact…

Quote from ethanedwards: “Lightnin' is a 1925 silent comedy film considered lost. Starring Jay Hunt, Wallace MacDonald, Richard Travers, J. Farrell MacDonald Amusing silent comedy, full of folksy humor, adapted by Frances Marion from the play by Frank Baron and Winchell Smith. Remade in 1930 with Will Rogers.” Hello Keith This is not lost I watched it a couple of weeks ago! A fairly good print of it I got from Ioffer.com Elly

  • Quote from Kcat: “Thank you Rough Rider! This is certainly interesting... and it says "day" which could help to support the time of 1 pm. How I wish The Duke were here and that we could talk with him directly. In lieu of that, every bit of information can help us get a little closer to the truth. Thanks again, Kcat” Hi I am just curious as to why the exact time of JW birth is important? thanks Elly

  • Quote from RoughRider: “The birth documents are from the personal property of John Wayne, auctioned in October 2011. They sold for US$7,767.50. More on the birth, from John Wayne: American "Molly got good prenatal care from Dr. Jessie Smith, one of Iowa's few female physicians, and they formed a close relationship. On May 25, 1907, when she went into labor, Molly put out a call to Dr. Smith, and the baby came the next day. It was a torturous delivery, marked by a long labor and a huge, thirteen-…

  • Quote from ethanedwards: “Great stuff everybody, what a great team you are!” Well now a thought occured to me , as they do LOL Folks keep telling me I should publish a book, something I have no interest in doing. However, This great team could, if they wanted to, publish the most ACCURATE and COMPREHENSIVE book about John Wayne. I will happily contribute Elly

  • Quote from RoughRider: “Hi, Elly Here it is: dukefilmography.com/john_wayne_birth_certificate.jpg” I just knew I would find the answer here. Thank you so much Elly

  • Quote from Hondo Duke Lane: “Elly, The question you should ask is did he have a birth certificate? His family was not well off and they were from the midwest, and most of the births back in the 1900's sometimes didn't give any birth certificate to new borns. My father who was born in 1932 did not have one. And I am not saying he didn't, but it is possible that he didn't have one. And I'd bet that his family would have it if he did. Cheers Hondo” Well if he did not have a birth certificate then I…
