  • Watched The Spoilers this morning. 1942, some of it is pretty dated but I still enjoyed it. John Wayne and Randolph Scott are partners in a gold mine in Alaska with Marlene Dietrich in a strong role as the female lead.

Quote from dukefan1: “Clint Eastwood's Hang em High starts out with a pretty graphic hanging of Clint's character. Could this possibly be the film you are thinking of? Mark ” This is what I was thinking too

I wonder if you are thinking of Hang Em High...an Eastwood film that came out in the late 60s

I sure don't remember them from that movie...though I do recall one of the horses having a Scottish accent...maybe they were in costume.

Sorry I am late to the game here; but A Christmas Carol is a favorite of mine since childhood. I have read the book several times and have forced that on my nieces and nephews. I enjoy most of the movie versions; even Albert Finney's musical Scrooge from the 1970s but to me the best version was George C. Scott in the 1980s. The dialogue was very true to the book and Scott's performance was excellent. I also think David Warner's portrayal of Bob Cratchit was one of the best. The other versions al…

  • I have Hostiles but have not gotten around to watching it yet. It was a gift; along with Shane, Once Upon A Time in the West, and Tin Star. I have seen the last three before but it has been a while for all of them. The last western I watched was Tall in the Saddle; which I watched earlier today. Of course I have seen it before too but it has all the classic pieces that you look for from John Wayne films...action, humor, and moral code. Ward Bond was part of the supporting cast and it is always g…

  • This article reminds of something that happened just a couple of weeks ago to me. A young friend of mine was visiting my house and saw some of my DVD collection and commented on John Wayne; saying that he knew who he was because of the Lady Gaga song. I had no idea what song he was talking about; but apparently the fact that she authored a song titled John Wayne made him; and perhaps others of his generation; look into who this person was that Gaga was singing about. And so; yet another generati…

  • My introduction to John Wayne movies was from watching them at my Grandma's house on her farm; especially on Saturdays when one of the local free over the air tv channels (back when those existed) would show two or three westerns in a row; at least one of them would always be a Duke movie. My Dad was just as big of an influence. I recorded Hondo when that local tv station played it on an evening one time while my dad; a truck driver; was out of town because I thought he would want to see it on t…

  • THU JAN 25 7:00 AM on HALMRK I Love Lucy — Lucy and John Wayne(Season 5, Episode 2) John Wayne sticks his feet in concrete to replace the footprints Lucy and Ethel stole from Grauman's Chinese Theatre. If he doesn't, Lucy worries that she'll go to jail. Fortunately, Wayne's a good sport and will be glad to come to the Ricardos' hotel suite for foot-dipping duty. But with Lucy on the loose, it won't be easy duty.
