  • I have a nice collection, nothing to compare to most of you. 6 or 7 books on John Wayne, lots of movie posters and lobby cards. Several collectibles like Wall knives with Wayne on them. Here is a link to my movie collection, though I have to add the earler silent years too. angelfire.com/zine/timetraveler/johnwaynemovies.html

  • I have had some major life reorganization so I had to be absent. But I do appreciate keeping the campfire lite and the coffee warm. I may not post much, but I will always be around.

  • Ok, I'm not really a newbie but I might as well be. I haven't been here in 2 years. Anyway, glad to be back.

In response to Dakotasurfer, he is right. It was not in any JW movies. It was Strategic Air Command with James Stewart. I have this movie to confirm it.

Did you also know that "Flying Tigers" was nominated for three Academy Awards? Flying Tigers Acadamy nominations - MUSIC (Music Score of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture) - SOUND RECORDING - SPECIAL EFFECT Not bad for a war flick, eh?:hyper:

  • I am looking forward to; "Tycoon" "Allegeny Uprising" "Trouble Along the Way "Reunion in France" " Sea Spoilers" I wish anyone but Atistan would release them though. They don't clean them up much.

  • Yesterday my wife and I watched "An American Haunting" . We really enjoyed it until the end. I wished it was more accurate than it was. But still it was a good movie!

  • Were I collect John Wayne films, my wife collect those "Hammy" Hammer horror films. She likes Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee both. I agree they aren't as scarry or high quality like some of todays, but we like them. Todays horror show so much blood and guts, it's not really scarry. The original Mummy stands out as a decent horror for me as well as Alien.

  • If you do some research, there is a difference between radiation cancer\sickness and lung cancer. John Wayne had lung cancer as well as stomach cancer. As posted above, most who died were heavy smokers. Also consider this, John Wayne was in his 70's when he died. The average lifespan for a male is 72. He lived to a decent age. That would have not been the case if it was from radiation. Just another urban myth. Where's the mythbusters when ya need 'em?

I agree to bring back this movie review. Also, review the DVDs too. Sometimes the DVDs aren't always the best. But you have my vote!

"Baby Face" has been released on DVD this week. It's more of a Barbara Stanyck Picture than John Wayne, but still worth the JW collection. It comes in a two disc (2 movies that is) set call "Forbidden Hollywood Collection". The reason is that at the time of release it was very racy and had to be edited down to an acceptable version. I am not sure if this is the full version of the movie. I have read that they restored the movie to its full uncut version. I will let you know, or I'm sure someone …

Again about "The Quiet Man", I was reading Digital Bits Rumour mill, and they said that both "Rio Grande" & "The Quiet Man" have both been reverted to Paramount pictures control! It is hopefully that both are undergoing an massive cleanup and will be re-issued looking far better than both Artistan versions. If this is true, then there will be a greatly improved "TQM" being released within a year or so on DVD from Paramount Home Video. yup, this will be great!

I may or may not have seen it posted here, but I would also like to announce that "Baby Face" is to be released on DVD also. Mostly a Barbara Stanwyk film, it's still a good one with John Wayne with a small part. It's also the only John Wayne film I've found to be banned in its day for being morally objectionable. The film had to be edited for public morality. Now, the film will be released on dvd with the restored 5 mins that was taken out because the Hays committee wanted it cut. According to …

  • First off: The National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF), is trying to preserve some films each year. Here is what they do: "The National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF) is the nonprofit organization created by the U.S. Congress to help save America's film heritage. We support activities nationwide that preserve American films and improve film access for study, education, and exhibition. The NFPF started operations in November 1997, thanks to the generous support of the Academy of Motion…

Thanks all, its great to be back. As for The Quiet Man, when you watch it on a small tv like maybe a 15 to 30 inch, it's not so bad. But we have a 60 inch HDTV and my wife and I could not bear to watch it! We watched "She wore a Yellow Ribbon", an older movie, and it looks great! TQM looked real grainy. Like the picture was stretched to much. I checked on the aniversary one by Artisan, but its basicly the same thing but with extras added. I think Artisan just puts out what is needed just to get …

  • Speaking of John Wayne movies being re-released, I wish someone would get The Quiet Man from Artisan and clean it up! Older movies look great on the widescreen HDTV, but TQM looks horrible. It looks like the old Goodtimes "McLintock!" DVD on a larger screen. It really is unbearable to watch unless you have a smaller tv. PS, hello everone. Sorry that I've been gone so long!

  • Found this at the AMCTV website. Its an auction all of you might be interested in. "This exciting event, broadcast live from Los Angeles, combines television and Internet technology to allow viewers to bid on memorabilia from leading men such as Gregory Peck, Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra, as well as a chance to enjoy lunch for ten people aboard "Wild Goose", John Wayne's former yacht. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Film Foundation's film preservation efforts." Here is the website, it d…

  • I never thought they would come out myself! I will surly add them to my collection! Here is a link to another site that has both titles. The High and the Mighty Island in the Sky These are at Lasers Edge Website. They are at a great price too.

  • Well, it's time for game 22! I waited a while so that each game would last longer and give everybody time to check it out and come up with a good caption. I figured two weeks should do it. This also gives me time to get more images to post for all of you. Let me know it its ok with you. I hope everybody is going to have a great St. Paddies Day, and remember to watch "The Quiet Man" to celebrate the holiday! Well, here is the next picture to start this game. It's from a lobby card from the movie …

  • Hondo! Good ta see ya again! Yeah, I meant to "The Sea Chase" to the list, but I couldn't remember it. Duh! I'm still trying to find more on the Paramount releases. I think they are really being secretive about it. If I could find some DVD covershot, that would help. Usually though, they just use what they had on the VHS covers. Well, I feel like Ethan in "The Searchers", I know its out there, but where???
