    75 years ago Robert Duvall was born, strange to see him as a comparatively young man in True Grit.


    82 years ago Dan Sturkie was born, he played a paratrooper in Cast A Giant Shadow.


    100 years ago Fred 'Snowflake' Toones was born, he was in Red River Range.


    24 years ago Hans Conried died aged 64. Tall with strange looking facial features and eyes he always seemed to play foreigners and did so in Jet Pilot.

    Yes I suppose thats quite a sobering thought Duvall as you say was approaching forty. It just shows that time has a habit of creeping up on you. Perhaps he looked young for his age or my memory isn't what it was.

    103 years ago Alan Napier was born in Birmingham England. Famous as Alfred in The Batman television series he was also the leader of the communist cell in Big Jim McLain.

    18 years ago the actor Boyd 'Red' Morgan died from a heart attack. One of the regular stuntmen, he was badly injured while filming the railroad sequence in How The West was Won.


    88 years ago the actor Richard Cromwell was born. Originally called Le Roy Melvin Radabaugh, he was a handsome leading man of the 1930s and in second leads by the 1940s when he dropped out of films. First husband of the actress Angela Lansbury- he appeared in Maker of Men.


    97 years ago the actor and director Jose Ferrer was born. He featured in The Greatest Story Ever Told.


    96 years ago Pierce Lydon was born. He was in numerous B westerns over the course of many years. He appeared with John Wayne in Red River.


    40 years ago the actor Lloyd Whitlock died 75 he was in Reap The Wild Wind.

    Dierkes was famous for his part of Jim Conklin (The Tall Soldier) in The Red Badge of Courage. He was in The Alamo and The Comancheros. He was aged 69.


    John Gregson was a very fine British actor and appeared in The Battle of the River Plate, Angels One Five and the comedy Genevieve. He was also in The Longest Day. He died whilst on holiday, aged 55.


    Anthony Warde was one of many supporting actors in a number of pictures throughout the golden age of Hollywood. He played an un-credited role in Pittsburgh. He died aged 66.

    35 years ago the actor and stuntman Kermit Maynard died aged 73. The brother of Ken Maynard he was un-credited in North to Alaska.

    Did you see Harry Carey in the leading parts? I saw him only in The Angel and Badman and Red River, but after that dedication in 3 Godfathers became very interested to see him in one of his early westerns.

    One of Harry Careys most sympathetic roles imo was as the leader of the senate in Mr Smith Goes to Washington starring James Stewart. If he was as nice as he acted in that film and in Red River in real live then he was a gentleman.
