"THE BIG TRAIL", the wide screen (or the "Grandeur") version. A very good movie...should be considered one of Duke's classics.
Also, from the DVD I watched featurettes "The Creation of John Wayne" (Not much we didn't already know), and the one about the director, Raoul Walsh. -
Rio Lobo I bought DVD at last (had only VHS version before). Of course not the best of Hawks movies but very enjoyable anyway.
-
"The White Buffalo" (1977)
-Charles Bronson, Will Sampson. Jack WardenWild Bill Hickok and Chief Crazy Horse hunt a legendary white bison that is haunting their dreams.
A strange mystical western. Out of the ordinary and not for everyone, but I enjoyed it.
-
As I recall the prop Bison was moving along railway tracks that could be seen in the shot. It was an interesting movie.
-
The last Westerns I saw included: The Comancheros, Thw Man Who SHot Liberty Valance and Big Jake.
-
True Grit good as ever too bad someone couldn't deal with inept politicians by yelling fill your hands etc lol
-
Comancheros was shown at our TV last night.
-
Well, I'm watching Fort Apache as I write this and when it's over, I'll be watching "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" on Turner Classic Movies.
A great way to spend a rainy Friday night..!! -
I too spent the night watching Duke in the Cavalry Trilogy on TCM last night. Man what a great night it was ;-))
-
Spent last two evenings watching 3 Randolph Scott westerns (Man behind the Gun etc.) and the restored Westerner - one of my favorites.
-
The Big Trail with John Wayne from his two disc DVD. Really enjoyed it a lot, and saw one of the extra called Creating John Wayne. That was good. It talked a little about his early life leading up him starring in The Big Trail.
Cheers -
Just finished watching "Gunfight at Dodge City" starring Joel McCrea and Julie Adams. Not a bad Western. Wasn't up to Duke standards but then few are. Joel played Bat Masterson.
-
I finally got to watch Randolph Scott in: Seventh Cavalry. Not a great movie but, not a stinker either. I also watched James Stewart in a Western but can't remember it's name. This movie had Jeff Chandler as either Cochise, Sitting Bull or Chief Crazy Horse-or one of those famous-like Chiefs ;-))
-
"El Condor" (1970)
-Jim Brown, Lee Van CleefA prospector and an escaped convict team up with a band of Apaches to rob a Mexican fortress.
Not one of Van Cleef's best films, but it has a few entertaining moments.
-
I also watched James Stewart in a Western but can't remember it's name. This movie had Jeff Chandler as either Cochise, Sitting Bull or Chief Crazy Horse-or one of those famous-like Chiefs ;-))
It was "Broken Arrow" and Jeff played Cochise. One of my favorite Stewart Westerns. -
Cahill US Marshall . A much underestimated John Wayne movie worth watching again.
-
"Westward The Women", a William Wellman movie from 1951. Robert Taylor plays a wagon train boss, leading mail order brides from Chicago to California. Very good, very well written movie.
-
the last western i watched was Rio Bravo this afternoon.
this is my first time on a forum or a message board so im a bit nervous -
I woke up this Sunday morning and The Magnifigant Seven was on. I then watched the Shootist. Last night I watched In Harms Way which is one of my favorite non western films.
