Hi Jim
I think in the original 1929 filmTrampas was also a baddie. I haven't read the book so I don't know if the films stuck to it.

Hi
I have just finished watching Rio Grande on television. One of my favourite John Wayne films its amazing when you think that around about the sixties BBC would have a season of films on one star. Watching the I wanted to own the film but of course that was out of the question.
Now I have the DVD of the film the CD soundtrack photos and poster from the film. I suppose thats progress.

I was only familiar with the TV show "Virginian", Art, and in it Trampas was one of the most likable characters. That why it was strange to me to see him as one of the bad guys in this movie. I'm not familiar with the 1929 film. -
The 1929 Movie "The Virginian" Waas Directed by Victor Fleming, and had Gary Cooper as "The Virginian" and Walter Huston as "Trampas" and was 91 Min. and Black and White .

Saw a Three Stooges two-reeler titled: "Yes, We Have No Bonanza." The Boys lifted my spirits a bit ;-D

Goofs, Grunts and Groans-is the last Western I saw-well, Western Three Stooges two-reeler.
-
Louis L´Amour´s "The Quick and the Dead", starring Sam Elliott. Wasn´t bad!

Really can't imagine him as a likable character, but it would be interesting to see different versions of the movie. May be they would be released here.
I received notification from internet store here about some westerns available - I haven't never seen. May be some of you can say something on this subject.
Captain Apache
High Plains Drifter
South of Heaven West of the Hell

The only one I've seen, Vera, is "High Plains Drifter" and I wasn't all that impressed with it. -

Vera - "High Plains Drifter" starring Clint Eastwood and a whole lot of character actors is more of an allegorical story than a straightforward one. I, for one, enjoyed it watching the baddies get their comeupance while Eastwood's character manipulated the townsfolks.

"A Gunfighter's Pledge" (2008)
-Luke Perry, Jaclyn DeSantisA sheriff mistakenly kills an innocent man while in a gunfight with the man who killed his family. He then returns the body to the mans sister and becomes involved in a land dispute between the sister and a crooked businessman who has the law on his side. (and In his pocket)
Decent made for TV movie. It has damn near every western cliche you can think of, right down to the opening scene of a tumbling tumbleweed.
Worth watching, but I don't think it's going to go in my permanent collection. -
Watched Lonesome Dove. I think the pigs steal a few scenes. I'm always up for Mr Duvall. There are some great moments in that series. For me it's almost like watching the Shootist in that although I have owned both for years this was my 2nd viewing of L D and that's how many times I have watched The Shootist. I think the sad parts hit pretty hard and some days you just don't want to add sad to the schedule. -
Yesterday, I watched the Gary Cooper feature "Springfield Rifle", which didn't impress me greatly.
-
I pulled up McLintock! and had a good time watching it. It's good to see these movies anytime. What a fun movie, and seeing Assia as a young child (no speaking part) was cute. Pull yours up and watch.

I watched Rio Bravo last night. I am on call all weekend so it was a very nice diversion.

These are the westerns i have seen this week...

You watched three of my favorites, including my favorite Western of all, which is "Rio Bravo". "Shenandoah" and "Bandolero" are the other two, neither of which get the recognition they deserve, IMO. -
"The Hallaleuia Trail," a movie that I don't know if the people involved making this really couldn't decide which way they wanted to go in this. It did have some good moments, however - the scenes with the indians using sign language was pretty funny - Martin Landau is really a versitile actor.
Cheers - Jay -
I watched Rio Bravo-I think sometime Friday or Saturday?

Finally watched "Dancing with Wolves" after fifteen years from the last time. Kevin Kostner did a fine job both in the acting and directing department. Nicely done epic story brought to life on film.
