This afternoon, I watched the latest issue of "How The West Was Won".
Was thrilled to see that they had [mostly] eliminated the two vertical lines that marred the previous release and that both sound and picture were vastly improved.
Something that struck me as strange though were the weird circular movements in several of the scenes. This was particularly noticeable in the buffalo stampede. I suppose the earlier edition had this movement but for some reason, I didn't notice it, or it wasn't so pronounced. Some of the scenes also seemed oddly compressed. -

I believe they had to compress the film because of the "Cinerama" film process and transering it to a regular format for home viewing. Probably was not as noticable in the old version compared to the recent version due to them cleaning up the video so well. My Blu-Ray version video is so clear I almost believe that the film was made in the last 5 years! And the sound was remastered and is in full surround sound. The music in the movie is just incredible. -
"Hombre" with Paul Newman...
-
"The Unforgiven," with Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn. Good offbeat western dealing with racist overtones.
-
Charro. Elvis gives a good and different performance in this overall quite nice western
-
Angel and the Badman-just this morning on the Encore Westerns Channel. Gail Russell sure was very pretty-and is a shame her carreer was short.

One of my all-time-favorite western - - a small and good cast - one of the brutalest films of this decade - 5 of 5*

As a young man, one of my favorite actresses was Janet Leigh. I thought she was gorgeous. -
Many of Mann's films where brutal, but it didn't turn me away from them to my own surprise.
Watched Colorado territory last night. -
Stagecoach, this film gets better every time i watch it. a great film
-
Wagonmaster Reasonably good Ford Western which is obviously the inspiration for Wagon Train. Could have been better and is rather an indulgent Ford movie.
-
