Co-screenwriter Miles Swarthout (1946-2016) remembers the multiple problems during the filming of THE SHOOTIST (1976) and shared them with a roomful of western fans at The Autry Museum Cafe, May 21, 2014. As dying gunfighter J.B. Books, Wayne gave one of his greatest performances, adding to his already overflowing legacy of unforgettable characters. There were many difficulties both before and during the filming of THE SHOOTIST. It was Duke's last film and a difficult project. Miles had adapted his father's award winning novel and shared exclusive behind-the-scenes memories of what really happened.
