We have alot of Brits and Canadians on this forum, here in the Colonies I keep hearing from the right that the English and Canadian Health care systems are a mess with people waiting forever to get treatment, from the left we hear that the English health care system is the best in the world and that people from the rest of Europe and the world can't wait to go there to get the fantastic care and you rarely have to wait more than a couple days for treatment and they never order extra tests that are unneeded etc.

Can anyone and everyone who has personal experience with the English and Candian Health Care Systems, comment on them?

Yes me, in my part of the UK, the health care as been second to none.
I had a scare, just before christmas, and it was sorted within two weeks,
and with 'after sales service' as well, phone calls checking up to see if all was fine!
Touch wood, no complaints about our local hospital.

My mom's relatives are all in Canada, and her aunt is planning on going to Vermont for a heart surgery that she would have to wait six months or more to obtain in Canada.

My observation is that in many countries that have socialized medicine, such as Sweden and Canada, the systems work fine as long as you have productive intelligent individuals contributing to the systems, but rue the day when they are overwhelmed by recent immigrants that don't mind haveing 10 or 12 kids and completely bog down the 'free' health care system. Many hospitals in cities near the US' southern border are near bankruptcy, if they haven't already gone into it. Among the primary reasons I'm against the current proposed socialized plan are allowing for the public payment of abortions and the free health care for illegal aliens. This whole scheme is, in my mind, a method of buying votes from the masses.

Looks like we are about to see the vote on Health Care Bill from the Feds. All we have left folks is prayers. So say them and pray for this country. It may change forever and in my opinion not for the better.

As an Aussie I find it hard to understand why a rich country like the USA has denied people basic health care for so long. Not to sure how you can balance being against abortion but wanting to deny immigrant children access to health care. Seems to me if you want the children born you should also be wanting them to be cared for.

There are many things wrong with the health care system in oz but at least we have one. If you need what they call elective surgery it can be a long wait but I know after busting and dislocating my ankle last year I was damned glad of the health system.

And for at least some aftercare in terms of nurse visits and other support.

We here in the US do not deny health care to anyone. The problem is the cost. We are going bankrupt everywhere. There is a solution, but as long as we have fibrous law suites on doctors who the government thinks they should be perfect, work for nothing, and not have a life, we will never have the quality health care for all that we can have.

This is of course a very complex situation and don't have too many solutions to solve this. As the saying goes this big monster is out of control, but the government is not the solution because they basically are not a health care industry, like they are not housing, retirement, elderly care, transportation, space, banking, automotive, or corporate industry. But they think they are and they are destroying it. It seems to me that they want to destroy it, so they can control our lives.

If what you have works where you, maybe you should pass it along to us. As long as the government has their hands in this we are sure to see our health care go downhill fast. They are a government industry and should be just that. Your media, like ours are the problem by misreporting the truth. What is the truth? No one really knows because of the distortion of the truth, but again that is what the government wants.

But again to answer your question, we do not deny health care to anyone, especially the children. It is the illegal aliens who are hurting our system by flooding the hospitals especially the ones by the southern border. It is critical right now and something has to give. And our southern neighbor is doing absolutely nothing to help us out. They can't and won't.

I'm not a historian or a political pundit by anyone's standards, but I have to say that the passing of Obamacare yesterday ranks alongside 12/7 and 9/11 as days that our country was betrayed.
But this time, the betrayal was by our own Executive and Legislative branches of government.
From a candidacy based on half truths, broken promises, voter fraud and outright lies, our arrogant Commander in Chief has ignored the will of the people to ram this outrage down the throats of the working class. He did so with backroom politics and bribery and assisted by that vapid harpy Pelosi; the feeble minded Harry Reed; Biden, a village idiot; and Eric Holder, a grossly incompetent shyster. I should also give "credit" to court jester Robert Gibbs.
As Sean Connery's character says in "The Untouchables" - that's the Chicago way.
But unlike Michelle Obama I'm still proud to be an American.

Have to admit I am split on this. I am no great fan of a socialist health service as it has been allowed certainly in the UK to mutate into something that wastes a lot of money & resources and is very piece meal in delivery.

On the other side of the equation, there is a awful lot of waste in the US system due to fear of malpractice & law suits, prohibitive insurance costs and restrictions that rarely deliver if you are unfortunate enough to become ill with a long or expensive disease or illness. Whilst I know most if not all Republican politicians are against the healthcare bill I wonder how much of this opposition is as a belief that the bill is wrong for Americans and how much is because they are being bankrolled by the health & insurance lobbyists to be against it in Washington.

Anyway, right or wrong the bill has passed congress and is likely to become law.
I hope it works out for you time will tell.

The hardest part to swallow is the burden that has been placed on future generations to pay for this massive pile of doo-doo. Now, I don't deny that health care needs to have some changes but the government is the last place that should be making them changes. They are not suppose to be making these types of decisions, in my opinion. Just like the government should not be bailing out the car companies and banks.

I can't understand why the American people don't see that it's not about the health care issue, it's about taking away our freedom. The government is demanding that everyone have health care which means paying for it or be fined. FINED! That doesn't sound like a choice, it sounds like communism to me. And that may mean going to jail if you don't pay for health care. The bill hasn't been defined but I heard they are taking at first 25% of your pay for this "privilege" of having health care. That's doesn't include federal income tax, state income tax, sales tax, property tax, or any other tax you can think of.

Oh, by the way, Obama is having the Senate and House to bring up Cap and Trade Bill on Wednesday and voted on by this weekend. Do you know what that means? Additional taxes on your energy like electricity, water, gas, gasoline, telephone (including cell phone), and entertainment. This bill is suppose to increase your bills 75% for this year and double next year. Obama says we need to live like a third world country. That is his definition of sharing the wealth! You asked for change, you got it. Hope you like it!

As much as health care is going to hurt. Cap and Trade will be far worse in the short term. Any recovery that our econmoy may be in, which I really don't believe we are in a recovery, its all smoke and mirrors, anyways. Cap and Trade will be more damaging to the USA then the health care bill. It will literally cripple the economy and anything that has to do with transportation of goods and services. I hope people yank there heads out of there butts this fall and vote these jokers out because they are just plain flat out wrong.

Just think about it. The government's goals are to have one level income (kinda like an allowance), what we can have and a complete take over of decisions, which is defined as taking our freedom. Why? Well, I have my opinion, but I think it's more complexed than that. So what do we do? We get them out as fast as possible and I'm talking about this November. We need to find those who believe what we believe, and vote for them.

Then work especially hard to find a president who will do the right things and get this country going in the right direction in 2012. It's a long process, but if we don't take this seriously, then we will surely die.

The media has to be dealt with too. They have made a mockery of the whole situation, and they need to be stopped now. Boycott their news slot. Be sure to not buy from their sponsors, and protest their reporting.

As for our friends across the world who view us as evil because we don't want to part with our money to help the poor. That's hog wash! We care for our underprivileged than anyone in the world. As a matter of fact we as conservatives have been demoralized as the evil ones, but we are doing all the work, while those they support do absolutely nothing.

During President Bush's term, more money than ever have been given to third world countries for aids research, while our current president has been giving money to his supporters. Practically no money for aids research. But you won't hear that from your media or ours either. No, NO, NO!

We help underprivileged children as well as those who are sick all the time. But we have the worst health care in the world. Funny how foreigners come to this country for health care, and not in their own country. But that will stop pretty soon. Because we are about to bring that down to nothing. Oh, I forgot we are about to see an exodus of doctors leaving the field in the next year. They are giving up their practice because they will not be able to afford to stay in business.

President Obama selected a surgeon general that believes that doctors should live in poverty, not marry, and not make a living. She reported that her goal is to make doctors practice without any support. That's our America. I proud of it. How about you?

As I was riding the bus across town yesterday, I saw two black people wearing obama-lama-ding-dong t-shirts. Both their shirts had various and very stupid slogans on them and the OLDD portraits on said shirs reminded me of WWII German and Russian propaganda posters and the like. Anyway, I partly remember what one slogan was on one fo the shirts and it was something like: "Redistribution of wealth will be a good thing." A good thing? for who? the lazy useless eaters who all they do all day long is sit back and get drunk and smoke weed on their front porches!

Well, the first black guy seemed to be pretty smug wearing his OLDD t-shirt and gave me a dirty look when he noticed that I was frowning after reading the propaganda garbage that was printed all over his shirt. Im getting sick and tired os seeing people wearing shirts with anti-American garbage on them. Im going to start having tshirts made featuring my kind of thingas-such as one or two with a photo of General Robert E. Lee on it-another with general Patton on it taking a leak in the Rhine River, as well as some with Steve McQueen, Duke and Ronald Reagan featured on them.

Im really beginning to hate being in liberal-ridden-anti-American hate-filled Austin.
