    HGWT is currently on STARZ on their Western channel at 2:38 pm EST, I believe is the time. It changes airing time every six months or so. I have my DVR set to record it. It's also out on DVD but for the final 6th season. That one's overdue for release and I can't wait! :hyper:

    I've always thought if I knew which episode it was, my eagle eye could spot him. Thanks very much for your help, my friend. I've seen my idol, Mr Nimoy, in several of his uncredited appearances in films. You're a prince (I am assuming you are male, btw) to help me answer this question!


    Ben Johnson was good in Head of Hair, but I prefer The Fifth Bullet and The Race to that episode. HoH was overly melodramatic and Ben Johnson wasn't well cast as a Native American, IMO. It may have been the first episode in which he appeared. Boone was generous to new actors and extended a helping hand to them with parts in his series.


    Tastes in television have changed with economic times as well. During the Fifties and Sixties the economy was growing and fuel was cheap. Drama tended to be heavy in contrast.


    HGWT was an excellent example of the contrast of the inverse variation law of entertainment to economic chaos. Here's how it works: when the economy is good, more entertainment is dramatic and complicated. When the economy is bad more of entertainment is comic or light and amusing. At the moment I cannot recall whose theory this is...perhaps it will come to me. Google is my friend. :wink_smile:

    OH, I saw the RACE a few times....Hmmm, that wasn't the camel one, it was the horse race, right? Was Ben Johnson the other rider? Seems like Paladin rode for the old chief as he was the one who hurt the chief's Indian rider.....I may have this mixed up with something else. I am pretty sure I must have seen the Fifth Bullet also, what was it about? I didn't pay much attention to Ben back then. The first time or two I saw him YEARS ago, he gave a rather "wooden" type performance, and I never paid attention to him until I started my book research and kept hearing great things about him. Dick and a few others must have really been good at teaching acting, because Ben got a LOT better. I think Pappy Ford helped him a lot also.

    That was indeed the moulee (sp?) horse race that ended with the running fight. Ben Johnson was fighting a long protracted physical fight with Boone. It was a great episode and no camels were involved. Ben Johnson did improve his acting. Richard Boone taught many Hollywood actors their craft.


    At the moment I'm unable to put my hand on my copy of A Knight Without Armor In A Savage Land, Richard Boone's biography, but actors whose names you would recognise. Currently I'm upgrading my electronic equipment and all my books are in disorder as a result. When things are returned to their places I can name names. You may be surprised.

    Yes, that was the title of the episode. Paladin won the race, restored the water rights to the town and earned himself a large cash reward as well. BTW, Gene Roddenberry wrote that one along with Herb Meadow. :wink_smile:


    No, I'm afraid I've never been able to figure out which episodes Leonard Nimoy was in, or even if he appeared in any HGWTs. I managed to spot his appearance in THEM, so I have a good eye for finding him in uncredited extra film roles...but even on my large screen HDTV with my upscaling Blu Ray player (it improves the resolution of DVDs) I haven't been able to find him yet. I read this claim in Wikipedia so it may not be valid. Still, it makes sense. LN appeared in Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, Bonanza as well as other Western genre. Why not HGWT?

    Actually, I have checked those thoroughly with the exception of The Savages. That episode has yet to be released on DVD.


    OTOH, the Great God Roddenberry asked for the Holy Nimoy to be Spock based upon his appearance in another television series, the name of which escapes me at this instant.

    Well, too bad. I would certainly like to see someone BRAVE enough to put out a really quality Western weekly TV show. Thought something based along the HGWT lines.......not as complicated as a WT type, would do great. I don't watch TV as I became thoroughly bored by the mindless type comedies, etc. that are put out now. And reality shows......LORD....never thought the American public was that dumb. Oh, some hillbilly types maybe, but some of MY friends watch them!

    OK, the GW. I am taking over it...did last month because Dooley posted a movie and took a vacation, LOL....then, the thread owner Irish Duke, asked me to choose a new movie......darn, Duke non western. We alternate with Duke Western. Look back at Tall in the Saddle of last month. I did a complete screen catch of Duke and Ward's fight, LOL.........showed how much better they were they the doubles they used......ridiculous when they practiced at the farm and at each other's houses all the time! Also showed him kissing the lead full up, not turning his back as usual and questioned if he might be split up with wife?
    Anyway, I am attempting to get folks to DISCUSS they movie not just say what they thought about it once. I am offering sketches to First answer questions, etc.
