Oh, I didn’t know until I saw it here.‘The Virginian’ - brilliant, and beloved by me as a boy. Doug McClure, Clu Gulager, Lee J Cobb - while it never scaled the heights of the great ‘High Chaparral’ it was a marvellous show. Went off a bit in the Stewart Granger era though, as I remember.

Rest in peace James.

He was an extra. I can’t recall seeing him.

I watched True Grit again looking for Brimley. Didn’t see him. Maybe he was an extra in one of the crowd scenes like at the public hanging.

Sylvia Syms, wonderful actress and star of ‘Ice Cold in Alex’ passes away aged 89. She also appeared in ‘The Desperados’ with Jack Palance, as well as a vast number of other films and TV shows. RIP.

RIP Burt Bacharach, who dies age 94. Legendary composer, and one-time husband of Angie Dickinson, Duke’s co-star of course in ‘Rio Bravo’.

Happily, Angie is still with us and will be I hope for many years. I wonder how many other of Duke’s co-stars are still here. Ron Howard springs to mind …

Here in England yesterday the BBC showed ‘Burt Bacharach - A Life in Song’. Recorded in 2015 it featured a range of stars, the Burt Bacharach Band, and Burt interviewed about his life and his songwriting. High point was Burt playing the piano and singing ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my Head’. His voice wasn’t quite what it used to be, but who cares? A truly moving occasion.
