Willis Pyle Dies: ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Fantasia’ & ‘Bambi’ Animator Was 101
Animator Willis Pyle, whose long career saw him working on the Disney classicsPinocchio, Bambi and Fantasia as well as on the cartoon series Mr. Magoo, died June 2 in his New York Home. He was 101; his family made the news public.
Born in 1914 in Lebanon, KS, Pyle studied art at the University of Colorado, afterward moving to Los Angeles where in 1937 he found work as an office boy delivering supplies to animators at Disney. By 1940 he had moved up to assistant animator under Milt Kahl (one of Disney’s “nine old men”) on Pinocchio. He then worked onFantasia and Bambi before leaving the Mouse House to embark on a successful freelance career.Among the many animated productions he worked on, we worked for Walter Lantz on Woody Woodpecker, he animated the oscar-winning Dr. Seuss short Gerald McBoing-Boing, and United Productions of America’s Mr. Magoo. In his later career, he worked on Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure, Halloween Is Grinch Night, and several Charlie Brown specials.
During World Ward II Pyle served in the U.S. Army Air Force’s First Motion Picture Unit. He retired from animation in his late 60s and focused on painting for the rest of his life. He later donated his personal archives to the Lilly LIbrary at Indiana University. His family included his brother Denver Pyle, known as Uncle Jesse on CBS’ The Dukes of Hazzard, and his uncle, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ernie Pyle. He’s survived by extended family including his nephew.

Noel Neill, Actress Who Played First Lois Lane, Dies at 95
SO bummed about this! I absolutely adored her as an actress in general, and especially as Lois Lane. My very first (of MANY) tv or film related fandom obsessions was with all things Superman- especially the 1950's Adventures of Superman show. For years, every summer when school was out, my brother and I would sit down in front of the TV after lunch and put on a random DVD out of our collections from this show, and watch about 6 episodes. We watched each episode so many times that I can probably quote the entire scripts of my favorite episodes now, without having watched the episode for over a year.
I adore George Reeves as Clark/Superman, but Neill was, for me, the true star. She did not play Lois as some bubblehead who needed saving constantly and who was only there as the expositional question-asker; no, she was brilliantly unique and strong. No offense to *the other* Lois (Phyllis Coates) but Noel Neill will always be Lois to me.
R.I.P!

Interesting, I saw a post somewhere online about her earlier this year, it wasn't about her being ill or anything, just a story about her. I guess it was one of those Where are they now articles, I remember being surprised that she was still with us. Sad that we now find out that she has passed. I watch the original Superman TV show when I was a kid.
