      DUKE'S ANCESTORS

      Mini Biography

In ancient past, the Morrison clan,
had originated on the island of Lewis,
in the Outer Hebrides, off the coast of Scotland.

During the 17th Century, along with tens of thousands
of other Scotish Presbyterians, they migrated to Ulster,
      in Northern Ireland.
They were invited by the English, to be involved
with the crushing of the Roman Catholics, who occupied the land.

Over the next centuries, they became known as the
Scotch-Irish, that until recently were still
embroiled in that life and death struggle

The government of that time made promises
that were never kept, and if argued against,
      meant certain prison or death.

A certain Robert Morrison, who was Duke's Great-great- grandfather,
was born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1782,
to his parents John Morrison and Nancy de Scroggs.
Robert's father John died when he was a baby,
but he passed on to the infant the tenacity of his ancestors.

Mistrust of the British Government in Northern Ireland,
drove thousands of the Scottish Presbyterians,
including Robert Morrison to start all over again in America.

Robert Morrison arrived in New York in 1799.
The thousands of immigrants travelled west and along the east coast.

Robert took the southern route, settling briefly
in Chester County, South Carolina, before moving out to
      North Kentucky.
On hearing of a large clan of Morrisons,
across the Ohio River, near Cherry Creek in Adams County,
he moved and spent the rest of his life there.

Robert Morrisons 5th child, James born in 1811,
      grew up in Cherry Fork,
but then pushed west to live out his life in
      Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois..

One of James Morrison's sons was a certain
      Marion Mitchell Morrison, Duke's grandfather.

      Hello Keith

Where did you get all of this genealogy from? if you did the research yourself I am full of admiration for you.

I know how long these things take as I have being conducting a one name study on my surname for years. I have managed to cobble together a history of my name going back to about 1115 in England, but as there are few written records before 1450 it is very hard.

I have tried to look ino my mothers family who are from Ireland but have found this even more difficult.

Incidentally I have a James Morrison born 1878 marrying a very close relative of mine. James was the son of James Morrison and the marriage took place on the scottish borders.

      Hi Chester & Mrs C

Perhaps, one thing's for sure I am NOT going to spend the next 20 years doing the research to find out!!!

Life's for the living and at 51 years old being YFS again I intend to live whatever life I have left not waste it chasing after those long past.
