    Plot Summary
    Newspaper staffer Alice Woods persuades the editor to allow her to chase a story, that of prizefight contender Martin, who is about to fight for
    the championship. However, he does not know that his manager is preparing to double-cross him.

  • Speakeasy (1929) was an early talking sports drama film directed by Benjamin Stoloff
    and adapted by Frederick Hazlitt Brennan and Edwin J. Burke.
    The picture was produced and distributed by Fox Film Corporation.
    Lola Lane and Paul Page played the lead roles.
    John Wayne, age 22, had a minor role in the film.


    All film elements to this movie are considered lost.
    But Vitaphone-style discs of the soundtrack survive


    This early movie which uses intercuts from

    Duke is mentioned as being involved.


    The is a reference in a 64 page,
    John Wayne Biography published in 1979
    said this

    Duke being involved with this movie.


    True or not, we will know in time,
    but for now, still part of Duke's Filmography
