    Information from IMDb

    Plot Summary
The Pacific follows the lives of a U.S marine corp squad during the campaign within the Pacific
against the Japanese Empire during WW2.
Made by the creators of Band of Brothers, it follows a similar line of thought to outline the hardships
of the common man during war. the Pacific is in parts a fast paced war series that can be enjoyed
by action lovers whilst containing a more sensitive side when projecting the relationships
(brotherhood) of soldiers on the battle field. where the Pacific takes a new direction
from its "older brother" is in its depiction of the lives of soldiers who were picked
to return home to increase the sales of war bonds, in doing this it also depicts the life cycle
of returned soldiers from initial joy to the eventual feeling of regret and to a certain extent shame
felt by soldiers wanting to return to the war in service of either their comrades or nation.

  • The Pacific is a 2010 television series produced by HBO, Seven Network Australia,
Sky Movies, Playtone and DreamWorks that premiered in the United States on 14 March 2010.

The series is a companion piece to the 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers
and focuses on the United States Marine Corps' actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations
    within the wider Pacific War.
Whereas Band of Brothers followed one company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment
    through the European Theater,
The Pacific centers on the experiences of three Marines
(Eugene Sledge, Robert Leckie and John Basilone) who were all in different regiments
    of the 1st Marine Division.

The Pacific was spearheaded by Bruce McKenna (co-executive producer),
one of the main writers on Band of Brothers. Hugh Ambrose, the son of Band of Brothers author
Stephen Ambrose, served as a project consultant.

  • I agree with the 10/10 assessment, but I must (respectfully) disagree with their attempt at 2nd guessing all the great work that IS this incredible story.

As I've said before, my dad was in the Okinawa campaign, piloting a Higgins Boat (one of countless others) into the very teeth of the battle, and was under constant enemy fire from the island AND the air (kamikazes).

I watched the entire series, and loved every second of it.

    I give it a 15/10!
