    It is always sad when links to our youth slip away. I used to love ‘The Virginian’ when I was a boy, especially the earlier series with the great Lee J Cobb (who appeared, of course, with the Duke in ‘How the West Was Won’). The later series, which featured Stewart Granger (Duke’s co-star in ‘North to Alaska’) were less good, but still head-and-shoulders above any of the rubbish that’s on TV these days.

    Mason was good playing Rommel, even though the film was a whitewash.


    Granger was a more interesting actor. I watched him last night in "Sodom and Gomorrah".

    I liked Clu and thought he was a very good actor.
