After I posted the question I began thinking that people might have the wrong impression. No - I haven't attempted to twirl a revolver. I just always enjoyed watching it done, and Duke always made it look so easy.

Seems as though I saw something about this before... Kindly direct me to the post and I'll read them. I did some searches, but never found what I was looking for.
I love to watch John Wayne spin the revolvers (Searchers, Liberty Valance). I know these are not real, but they are replicas of large caliber revolvers. I handle a .357 and there is no way I could ever spin it like that. I'm no where near as large as Duke and I have small hands, but I'm still amazed watching this. I was wondering if the guns in the movies are much lighter than the real thing, or was Duke just real good at this. I'm assuming the guns in the movies were supposed to be .45's.

Last year I asked if anyone knew what had killed Hatari! actress Michèle Girardon at such an early age (37). After searching around again I came across the answer from the website glamourgirlsofthesilverscreen. Apparently she overdosed on sleeping pills after experiencing a sad love affair.

Speaking of old westerns, I remember watching Laredo when I was very small. I don't remember anything about it except it involved Texas Rangers and one of the characters was Neville Brand. Since then whenever he would appear in another movie or television program my family would always call him by his Laredo name, which was 'Reese'. The same thing applied to Doug McClure from 'The Virginian'. Whenever we saw him we always thought of him as 'Trampas'.

It's difficult for me to pick a favorite, but I'll add one I always enjoyed watching as a kid because no one else has mentioned it -- Death Valley Days. I guess I haven't seen an episode of this in at least thirty years.

When I was a youngster my folks never locked the doors. I doubt they even knew where the keys were, but I can't imagine that situation today.
He carries the company flag in She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, so you can see him quite a bit in that one. I'll probably watch Rio Grande tonight and try to spot him. I have seen him in a still photo of the church scene.
I watched The Searchers again today and I always chuckle a bit whenever Ethan's brother Aaron hides the money he is given. This reminds me of the Jerry Seinfeld joke about people at the beach hiding their valuables in their shoes. (which honestly I have always done)
I've always liked Sam Elliott. I thought he made a great Bucky O'Neil in 'Rough Riders', and I really love the Union Pacific ads that he narrates.
In a feature on The Quiet Man DVD, she talks about John Ford, Duke, and filming the movie. She mentioned that she is the only living person who really knows what was said, and she will take that secret to the grave.

Duel in the Sun, My Darling Clementine, and The Westerner with Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan. I think Walter Brennan won an Oscar and he deserved it.
