One thing that I look forward to every 4th of July is our town's fireworks. They always have music that accompanies the fireworks, and right before the grand finale they always play the Duke reading the Pledge of Allegiance. I love it. I would be so disappointed if they ever left that part out.

I have always been a huge fan of Hepburn's. I wish her and the Duke could have made more than one film together. I have several of her movies in my collection so I'll have to go home and watch a marathon of them to pay respect. The actors of today just don't seem to match up to the legendary status and style of ones from Hollywood's past.

I guess I became a John Wayne fan when I was around 10 or 11. Every Sunday afternoon I would pile on the couch with my Dad and watch westerns. There was one channel on tv that would play westerns all day. We'd watch Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Maverick, Big Valley, and then they would always show a couple of western movies in the evening. The Duke was my Dad's favorite, and shortly became mine also. I started recording and collecting his movies. My Dad started my collection of memorabilia by giving me an old Look magazine with the Duke on the cover. I've been collecting ever since. My sister calls it a sickness. If it is... I don't want to be cured.

Thanks for the info on Carey's site. It is really good, lots of info. His book does sound like a good read for the Duke fan, I'm going to try and pick it up.

One of my favorite non-duke westerns is probably The Magnificent Seven. I also like some of the newer Westerns with Tom Selleck. I like that they are trying to revamp the genre. Also, it's not really a western in the classical sense, but I like Last of the Dogmen with Tom Barrenger. It has some beautiful shots in it, and a very good storyline.

My choice for best western actor in the last 20 years would have to be Tom Selleck. He's really tried to bring the genre into popular viewing again. It's so hard to find a really good western story on the big screen anymore, but I've been pretty pleased with his last few TNT westerns on tv.

Other than the Duke, for the older generation star, I would have to say Jimmy Stewart or Robert Mitchum.

My favorite leading lady would have to be Maureen O'Hara. The Duke and Maureen had such perfect chemistry together.

My favorite male actor would either be Ward Bond or Barry Fitzgerald.

I saw that interview also. She is great. I had heard that story about the whisper at the end of the Quiet Man before. According to the story neither her nor the Duke ever disclosed what it was that she said. Must have been something really good.
