I'm looking forward to getting into some of these films when we start the film of the month review. Most of these will be completely new for me, but I'm ready to be educated.

Am I the only one shocked to see how well Powers has held up through all these years? Her looks remain incredibly fresh and beautiful without the appearance of a surgeons knife. Really quite amazing.

I haven't seen any of those but that is not surprising. Those films were such disposable entertainment for it's day, it was tough to find a true gem in that lot that stands out. Even John Wayne couldn't make a name for himself until he got outside that grouping of cardboard stories.

Just finished watching this on Blu Ray tonight... WOW... The picture and sound are impeccable. My wife had never seen this film and she was captivated throughout. This is a real testament to the quality of stories John Wayne and Ford made. They are truly timeless. Since I was a teenager, I have ALWAYS thought of Lee Marvin more as Liberty Valance than any other character he has played. This was truly a great role for Jimmy Stewart. Him and John Wayne had incredible chemistry.

I picked up two CDs that are pretty descent but similar - One is " Music from the Westerns of John Wayne and John Ford". The other is "Westerns of John Ford". I was looking for the track off "Yellow Ribbon" and both have it. The first is a single disc, the second two discs. I sure wish though there were modern stereo renditions of the original scores. Some of these are so iconic, but its kind of a bummer to hear them all on mono.

Watched my new copy over the weekend and also loved the picture. Didn't watch it with the commentary. I'm going back this week to watch it again. Sounds fascinating.

2016 kept taking to the 11th hour. Very sad.

Watched the new version of The Magnificent 7 last week. I bought the 4K version and played it on my sons 78" $k tv and it looked like the title, magnificent. Especially the panoramic scenes, so much detail. As for the movie, we thought it was pretty darn good. Not as good as the original from 1960, but it had it's good moments and plenty of action.
As for the Blu-ray of Hondo, I bought a copy when it was first released and when I put it on, I was amazed at the picture clarity. It was beautiful and looked like a brand new movie. When The Searchers came out on Blu-ray some years back, I thought that was fantastic looking in HD. Hondo equaled that in every way.May I recommend "She wore a yellow ribbon" released this year. By far the best restoration I have seen to date and I have about 18 John Wayne movies on Blu ray thus far. Lots of fun work ahead of me.

^^^ Wow! That is awesome! Excellent forward thinking on your part to do that Jim. Would love to see all of that on regular DVD some day.

The Grim Reaper has partaken more than his share this month (not to mention this year). Time to stop.

Got the cookbook yesterday and all I can say is...WOW! Some great looking eats in here. Have to start with those onion rings this weekend. The chili looks mighty tempting too. My wife and I leafed through the book just to see all the various recipes and we didn't see one that didn't look delicious. This will be a fun journey into the Duke's kitchen.

Crazy Heart, Fearless
There is no better actor than Jeff Bridges.
Great movies! Jeff Bridges is second only to John Wayne as my all time favorite actor.

Nice Kevin

So very sad... Can we get the heck out of this year without losing anyone else? Good grief!

Fascinating story! I never knew Howard Hughes faked his death. Thanks for sharing! Incredibly neat.

Wow. It's just unbelievable how many lives have been taken from us in the entertainment world this year. It's truly breathtaking. Very sad. He was so young too.

Horse Soldiers on Blu Ray last night. I highly recommend this format!Such a great film.

I think for me it just makes for great environment in the background while you enjoy the Christmas day. Nothing like John Wayne in the same room while you celebrate the holiday.

I can never get enough of the Searchers. Hank Worden has some of the funniest lines in that film which really help counter balance the dark tone of the story. It's one of the great classics of all time.
