Thanks for the kind comments guys, it was a dream come true to visit Bracketville and I could have walked around that place forever.
It was the most amazing experience to just stand on the same spot where all those unforgettable scenes were filmed and take it all in, one day just wasn't long enough.

Last October I visited the film set at Bracketville on what was, up to now anyhow, the last day it was officially open to the public.

I took a heap of photo's and video and have put them together mixed with clips of the film to give a sort of "then and now" perspective.

I only intended to make it last for about 15 minutes or so but kinda got carried away somewhat and it ended up at about 40minutes long in the end !!

I put the finished effort on Youtube and had to split it into 3 parts, if anyone is interested in having a look, here are the links.

Thanks for the clarification Keith, I will be snapping away like a hungry 'gator once I get over there so brace yourself for the influx of photos and reports!

It's only a couple of days to take off now and I'm packed and ready to go just not looking forward to the 16 hour flight time from Gatwick but reckon it'll be well worth it in the end.

BILL OF PA, hopefully I'll manage to catch up with you, but from what I gather there's going to be a lot of people milling around down there, so fingers crossed!!

    Hi Guys
Haven't been here for a while, but thought I would share this with you.

On Oct 8 there is to be a 3 day "Gala" in San Antonio to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the premiere of "The Alamo". A whole heap of things are to be going on down there inc' a showing of the movie at the IMAX, a fund raising event at the Alamo itself, plus a non associated day trip out to the film set in Bracketville.

I have just booked myself a six day trip and secured my tickets for these events as I reckon it could be the ultimate Alamo experience for any fan of the Duke or of the Alamo itself, the gala promises to be some wild event with memorabilia from the film on display, a special presentation of the soundtrack played by a live orchestra, meet and greet with some of the Wayne family plus a live auction (of what, I'm not too clear about!) and hopefully an appearance or two from some of the surviving actors.

All in all it promises to be a "Once in a lifetime" experience and I can't wait for it to come around, I've busted a gut (and my credit card!) to get on-board for this but reckon it will be well worth it.

If you like I will post a full report on my return to share it with any who can't make it, is there a way of posting photos of things that happen as I don't know how the site rules work with that ? anyhow thought I would share my excitement with you all for now.

    regards
    John.

This is a film that must be saved. there is a forum that I belong to which is solely dedicated to this great movie, it is a very small forum which has only been going for about 6 months and only has about 60 or so members but the info and knowledge and love pertaining to the film here is second to none.

I feel sure that should you inform them of this ongoing fundraising campaign the response would be a positive one.

I am not keen on the practice of coming onto forums and preaching the virtues of others, but in this instance perhaps the mods here will forgive me for doing so as hopefully the ends will justify the means.

I remember reading a great story about Duke during the filming of "Brannigan" in London, forgive me if it's already been told but here goes.

While filming the car chase over Tower bridge the police told the director that under no circumstances could he close the bridge for the scene which involved two cars actually leaping across an open section while it was being raised, on hearing this Wayne apparently told the director to go ahead and shoot the scene anyway and to hell with what the police said.

When asked if it was a good idea to go against an official police order Duke is said to have replied "Hell!! who's going to argue with a living legend ?"

    BRILLIANT !!

First of all a big thanks for the warm welcome Keith, yes I am the steward in the Tiverton legion and should you ever be in town drop in for a chat and a drink you will be most welcome, I tried to reply to the friends request but couldn't get the link back up but the answer is a yes anyhow.

Also a big thanks to Chester (and the Mrs !) I really appreciate the warm welcome, it's real nice to be made to feel at home straight away, look forward to chatting and discussing with you all real soon.

    All the best
    John.

    Hi Everyone
My name is John (as you might have guessed from my user name ? ) and like most people on this site I have been a lifelong fan of the Duke since the age of about 7, and at 54 it is showing no signs of abating.

I am married to Sonia and work as a club steward in a Royal British Legion club in Devon, England. I found this site a while ago and have been meaning to post for quite a while but have had connection problems with my ISP which now seem to be sorted, so am looking forward to joining in on things from now on, have just posted a shot from the searchers over on that thread, see you soon.
