I liked Fonda's role in this movie, he played a good part, to me, Duke seemed to be second-fiddle to Fonda
That said, its a cassic JW western

I liked Fonda's role in this movie, he played a good part, to me, Duke seemed to be second-fiddle to Fonda
That said, its a cassic JW western
An enjoyable cavalry romp, I may watch this again later on today
The memorable, stand out scene is when Duke receives his watch from the troop and then retires
Great movie
Another of my Duke favourites, he should have won an oscar for his performance
On the other hand I thought Montgomery Clift was very weak, I found it irratating him keep touching his nose all the time
What a superb JW western, one of his finest
If its on television I always make time to watch it
Great story, great casting - hugely enjoyable
Another movie I need to purchase on DVD to replace my VHS version
Excellent cavalry movie, William Holden was in a great part, and I enjoyed the 'irratation' between him and Duke
The look on Dukes face when at the southern ladies house when Duke and his officers are enjoying a meal and she is rattling on about how romantic it must be being a train driver and Duke growled back that he was an engineer - memorable
Ding-dong, ding-dong !!!
I will always remember the scene when Big John belted him with a wheel spoke in Katie Elder - priceless!
I also liked him in The Dirty Dozen, Eiger Sanction & Cool Hand Luke
Always a solid, dependable actor with lots of great films to his credit
I liked Forrest Tucker in both Chisum and Sands Of Iwo Jima
My favourite being Chisum
In Chisum there was a great fight scene between him and Duke, he gave Duke a hard time, he is fairly big fella himself
Lee Marvin - a legend
Great actor, great adaptability, well cast as the evil Liberty Valance
Other films of his I have enjoyed was Point Blank and the Dirty Dozen, he had a very strong screen presence
I liked Strother Martin, he was always given great, scene-stealing lines
In Rooster Cogburn, I remember saying to Duke
- ' the reason why I took this job is because the only person I like is me' !
Classic
Great actor, casted well in Duke's films
I remember seeing The Searchers for the 1st time and seeing Big John screaming at him
I felt really sorry for him
He starred in many of Dukes films and in my opinion always acted well
With regards to his book I will shop around for a copy, it sounds an interesting read
I thought Glen did rather well in True Grit, in fact, I thought I may have gone on to be in more Duke movies
I love True Grit, my only gripe with the movie was the casting of Kim Darby - she was awful
I have some Dean Martin C.D.'s I like listening to, I am a big fan of his, I think he worked well with Duke, I particulary like him in Katie Elder
Has Bruce Dern been forgiven yet for murdering Duke ?
As a youngster watching The Cowboys for the 1st time and remember 'hating' him for shooting Duke in the back
Its a wonder he was not lynched !!
I am hoping to purchase the DVD of Big Jake to replace my VHS copy
I enjoyed Richard Boone's performance in this movie, I also enjoyed seeing him in The Alamo and The Shootist
A decent actor
Arthur, I remember that film well, after murdering someone he came out with a real crazy laugh
Good part for him, I have read at home he was a real dedicated family man
Watched a documentary about him not long ago and he came across as a real decent fella
I enjoyed Bob Mitchum in the movie Ryans Daughter, I believe after a days shoot on location in Ireland he spent the evenings getting the cast to smoke cannabis!
He seemed to work well with Duke
To me, Henry Fonda always seem to play 'honourable' roles with the exception of Once Upon A Time In The West
I quite enjoy his movies, especially his early films
Echoing a few comments in this thread, it is a great war movie, just a pity Duke had so little screen time
Hopefully. as has been said, they will give the film another name, as I would not like people thinking they are re-doing Dukes fine film
Okay, I appreciate that, no problem
John
