I watched some documentaries about John Glenn and his first orbital flight of an American astronaut 50 years ago on DVD. - Senator Col. John Glenn is a true American hero!

Back to the Future I-III; always great fun to watch these movies...

Rest in peace, Peter Breck! - Another great cowboy actor has gone to cowboy heaven... Nick Barkley was a wonderful role for him in Big Valley. At the moment Big Valley is released in Germany on DVD and I always enjoy watching it. I think, I will watch some episodes today and have a tear in the corner of my eye for Peter Breck.

Here in Germany it´s two o´clock p.m. and we start counting down the hours! At my home in Vienna (Austria) people will meet at the place in front of St. Stephen´s Cathedral in the first district in the evening and wait there to greet the New Year. There is the "New Years Mile" on Carinthya Street from the opera house down to the cathedral where You can buy sandwiches, hot dogs and champagne at little shops. Here in Germany thousands of people meet at Berlin near the Brandenburger Gate. You folks in the USA sing "Auld lang Syne" and we in Austria play Johann Strauß´waltz "At the Blue Danube" for New Years Eve...

No matter how we all celebrate the New Year, most important is to have family and good friends around!

I wish all my friends in the JW message board A HAPPY NEW YEAR(newyr)!

Whow, I did´nt know, that this was such an old poem! - I know the Song by Michael Martin Murphey who used the words on one of the most beautiful Christmas albums, I have ever heard (Cowboy Songs II - Cowboy Christmas). I play this song from the CD every Christmas in the barn for my horses.

Here is another favourite of mine from the Michael Martin Murphey CD:

    Corn, Water and Wood

I was in the arroyo gatherin’ strays
You know cowboys and cattle don’t get holidays
I would have been finished except for one little guy
Who kept leading me farther away

He went up on the mesa, across a ravine
At the Indian ruins and the muddy red stream
So I stopped for a spell, ‘cause I was bone tired
And I guess that I started to dream

I saw three painted horses, three dark skinned men
With masks made of clay and voices like wind

Singing we seek the soul, of all that is good
We come bearing corn, water and wood
Stop and behold, all that is good
Give thanks for the corn, water and wood

I’m an old trail hound and I’ve always believed
Your boots and your saddle are all that you leave
No miracles happen, no angels appear
But I swear three men were standing there

I shook myself over, had I been asleep
That’s just three pueblo children, tending their sheep
And they yelled Merry Christmas, as they brought me my stray
And their voices rang through the mesquite

Singing we seek the soul, of all that is good
We come bearing corn, water and wood
Stop and behold, all that is good
Give thanks for the corn, water and wood

The all-time Christmas favourite: It’s a Wonderful Life with Jimmie Stewart. I have not watched it for a few years, but I still like this wonderful movie!

Then I watched the Christmas episodes of JAG; - funny!

Hard to believe that, because history in every nation is an important part of what this nation and their citizens are today. I feel it is necessary to know about history to become a responsible citizen!

In highschool in Austria we have learned a lot about Austrian history and the emperors of Austro-Hungaria and how our country became a republic for the first time after WWI and again after the dark times of Nazi-tyranny in WWII. And we have learned about the American War of Independence too! As I graduated from highschool for my last examination in history I had to choose two of three questions. The questions were:

    Slavery in the Roman Empire
    The Peace Conference of Jalta
    The American War of Independence

    Quote

the least-qualified presidential candidate in 2008. And all Americans have suffered the consequences ever since.

I fully agree that and would add, that the whole world has suffered from this decision... But that is my personal opinion and it is one of the roots of democracy, that people have the right to think different. Here in Germany many of the young people love Obama.

Old Glory is waving again in front of my house!

A few days ago I have lost one of my horses, a beautiful American Appaloosa mare and a real good four-legged friend I had kept in my barn for over 21 years. I know she would not come back, but I tied a yellow ribbon for her to the door of her stable today...

As a pro-American Austrian patriot I wish all my friends in the USA a HAPPY JULY, 4th !!!
