Fire with Fire. With Bruce Willis

The Villain with Kirk Douglas, Ann Margaret, Arnold Schwarzzenagger (or however you spell his name!) and whole lot more. Like watching the roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote!

Article back on page 4 of this thread states that Ward Bond was born in Denver, Colorado. Not true. He was born in Benkelman, Nebraska.

I told ya not to sass the sisters!

Lockout with Guy Pearce. Nice John Wayne reference near the very end.

Patti Page, Honey-Voiced ’50s Pop Sensation, Dies at 85:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01…nger-dies-at-85.html?_r=0Sad to Patti Page leave us. I have been a Patti Page fan for a lot of years. Several years ago I wrote to her, and she sent me a very nice letter back. I think I'll go put on some of her CDs and reminisce.

Back when I was a youngster, Wyatt Earp was one of my favorite TV shows. O'Brien did a TV movie several years back called, "Wyatt Earp: Return to Tombstone." It also starred Bruce Boxleitner, Harry Carry, Jr., and Paul Brinegar (from Rawhide). It wasn't an Oscar winner, but it was good to see O'Brien as Earp one more time.

As you thought of Shall We Gather at the River, I thought of The Streets of Laredo which was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar and sing. He used that as a lullaby in Three Godfathers. KEITH
I know that he originally wanted to be a singer, but did not think he was good enough. Personally I think he had a very good singing voice.

This is indeed sad, and although I never met the man personally, I did correspond with him a few times. He was a fine actor, a wonderful singer, and a real gentleman. As I read of his passing, for some reason or another, my mind called up a snippet from Three Godfathers - Dobe singing "Shall We Gather At The River." Somehow seems appropriate. Adios Dobe. See ya on the other side of the river.

Two old William Castle films: "Straitjacket" starring Joan Crawford (1964) and "Homicidal" starring Glenn Corbett (1960). Some say that Homicidal was a rip-off of Hitchcock's Psycho, but I say it was a far better film, even with Castle's "Fright Break" gimmick near the end of the film. It was surprisingly good!

Keith (Ethan Edwards): You may want to make a note regarding the "other" new book that is coming out in May 2013, titled "John Wayne: The Genuine Article." I made mention of it about two or three posts back. Info is available on Amazon.
RE: Martin Scorcese (or however his name is spelled) - I don't know how "anti-American" he is (sorry Carl), as I have watched several interviews with him and I have seen several specials/documentary's featuring him, and I have never heard him say anything that I would consider "anti-American." Of course, this doesn't mean he is or isn't anti-American, it just means that I haven't heard him say anything that would lead me to think he is. I have heard him say that he has a great deal of respect for John Ford and John Wayne, and for that reason alone I haven't written him or his movies off. At least not entirely. I am not a huge fan of his films, but I have seen several of them. I just never thought they were all that great. Just my two cents here.

Hoping your Thanksgiving was the best and hoping your Christmas is even better. Mine will be since I have a "newly baked fresh from the oven--brand new Great Nephew" to look forward to seeing ;-))
Oh and, I still have all my Sgt, Rocks, Sgt. Fury's and some G.I. Combats--ill look when possible and see if I have any extra copies of any? and if so? willl be glad to give them to you. Most of the ones i have arent in mint--I read and reread them many times. Havent looked at them in about 20 years.
Thanks Carl. I was a big Sgt. Rock fan back then. And I had a bunch of Big Little Books of the Lone Ranger and what not - all westerns. I don't know whatever happened to all of them, but I wish I had them all now! Those BLB's would be worth a small fortune!
-
Ill look forward to this one--especially since it comes out 3 days after I turn 46.
Oh and: Hi Bob--long time no see and hear ;-))
Howdy Carl!

I suppose everyone knows this, but I searched as well as I know how and didn't find it. Anyway, Toby at 50 WESTERNS FROM THE 50S

John Wayne: The Legend And The Man.November 26, 2012 by Toby
Coming next week (December 4) is a book that could very well be a must for folks who mosey through this blog: John Wayne: The Legend And The Man. Put together by John Wayne Enterprises, this estate-authorized book features photos and personal memorabilia from every part of Wayne’s incredible life and career. It also includes an essay by Patricia Bosworth, a foreword by Martin Scorsese, remembrances by Maureen O’Hara and Ronald Reagan and an interview with Ron Howard.
If you click on the "you can by it HERE", you will see a good many excerpts from the book. Yep, I would like one! KEITH
I'm looking forward to reading this as well. And, there is another new one coming out next year called "John Wayne: The Genuine Article" by Michael Goldman. It is also authorized by Wayne Enterprises and Ethan Wayne wrote the preface for it. It is due to be released May 14, 2013. You can read more about here at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/John-Way…ine-Article/dp/1608871169
With the recent spate of crap books about John Wayne (either photocopied wikipedia pages, or the "let's tear down John Wayne" "deconstruction" books), it's nice to see some good books coming out about John Wayne.

Carl, in that Sgt Fury comic with the red cover, there's a character wearing a bowler hat and big red mustache. He looks like the same character that fought alongside Captain America in the movie that was out last year.
Its the same character. The character is Dum Dum Dugan. He was with Sgt. Fury, and later became an agent of SHIELD (if I remember right - it's been a long time since I read any Sgt, Fury comics! and I was more of a Sgt. Rock of Easy Company fan when I was a kid).
