Hi All,
Just to let you know that again being in the Air Training Corps (46F) squadron we visited many RAF Stations. We had the pleasure of meeting Douglas Bader and Bob Stanford-Tuck at North Weald when we were flying with 601 (City of London) Squadron which was a reserve unit that at the time was flying Meteors. Bader was reasonably approachable but Tuck was very stand offish. We were given some very useful tips by Bader and was at times very arrogant but also very forceful. Nice to revive some pleasant memories.

I have just watched "Victory" again on DVD and still think that the football scenes are amongst the best I've seen especially with John Wark, Bobby Moore, Ossie Ardiles and Pele. I was fortunate enough to meet Pele when he visited England in 1960.

Another film I have that I enjoy is "Appointment in London" starring Dirk Bogarde. About a bomber squadron and what happens to them whe they attend a medal investiture in London.

Hi All,
When I was in the Air Training Corps in England we used to visit RAF Stations. My Squadron (46F) visited Scampton and there were photos of a lot of 617 members. G for George was also on the tarmac waiting to be transferred to the Battle of Britain Flight. We were allowed to enter the plane and even us smallish boys found conditions tight. A wonderful experience though.

I have just watched "DUNKIRK" agin and I always seem to see more each time I watch it. Starring John Mills, Bernard Lee, Richard Attenborough and Robert Urquhart. To me still a classic movie especially with John Mills and Bernard Lee.

I always enjoy this film. Robert Montgomery, John Wayne and Ward Bond always seem to make things very believable.

Hi All,
Ths film along with "Zulu" was used as motivational material during my basic training in the Australian Army. I must admit that both films made an impression on me. I thoroughly enjoyed James Coburn, James Mason and Maximilian Schell in their roles. Personally I don't think others would have got the chemistry that was there between the three of them.

Hi Jim,
I agree with you about the Germans having squads dress in Allied Uniforms and yes most could speak excellent English. However their methods of traffic control were entirely different to both the American and English styles. As I said it stood out like a sore thumb. Most of the americans I have served with could map read so they should not have been so easily misled.

Hi All,
The aircraft that you were thinking about was actually discovered by underground search radar. The place of impact was sealed off for a weekend so that it could be excavated. It wasn't far from Victoria Station. On another note, Duncan Lamont became a school teacher before he took up acting and actually taught at a school I attended, Oxford Gardens Primary, in London. A lot of the area that was depicted in the East End was literally nothing but bomb sites into the 1960's. We were bombed out twice where we lived. We played on these sites for quite q while until the local "Bobby" turned up and chased us away.

The Mercedes Cars used in this film were actually imported from Germany for another film and converted by a British company as the orriginal film was supposed to be filmed in Sweden, which at that time like England drove on the left side of the road. The other film was scrapped and the vehicles used in this film.

As an ex Military Policeman, with a lot of experience in traffic control, I found Ty Hardins portrayal of an MP quite ludicrous. Then again being more of a fictionlised account of the battle it should not have surprised me.

Thanks Keith for putting on the Johnny Horton song. My two grandsons listened to it and then wanted to watch the film, it made a pleasant afternoon.

This was one of the first DVD's I bought. Thoroughly enjoyed Kenneth Moore as Capt Shephard and thoroughly enjoyed Karel Stepanek as Admiral Lujtens. Possibly enjoyed it more as I met Karel at Pinewood Studios. Definitely not a Nazi but a proud German. A good performance from all the cast.

I was watching the movie again and one comment that really stood out was that the "Zero" was superior to both the "Spitfire" and "Me (Bf) 109". To be truthful how could a Japanese aviator compare them when he had never flown either aircraft, let alone off of an aircraft carrier for which neither aircraft was originally designed.

Another DVD to watch out for is "Sharpe's Peril" again set in India and is a follow on to "Sharpe's Challenge".

The remake of the "Dam Busters" is scheduled to start this year with more access to details that were not available in the first film. However Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave portrayed their characters so well that they will have to come up with people who can emulate them.
