Chatto's Land
Good Bronson outing. Always liked this one even of it's quite grim.

Well done Peter, great stuff
Thanks, much appreciated

The Ringo Kid-$3 a good deal.
I just ordered "Fort Apache" and "Battle of the Bulge" from Amazon for $4.99
each in BluRay..Unbelievable value! Both are superb transfers!

So sorry to hear this news Carl,
this is absolutely awful,
and I totally agree with your feelings.
My thoughts are with youMy sentiments too Carl, that is a needless tradegy.
-
Stills are really nice Carl, are they yours?
I just couldn't get past the singing cowboy bits!
Glad you enjoyed them. -
The Texans with good old Randolph Scott, didn't let me down, good little western.
A double bill of westerns, went straight into California starting Ray Milland, Barbara Stanwyck and a very young Anthony Quinn, not bad either! -
The Deadly Companions is coming out on DVD on February 13.
Thanks for the heads up Paula.
Peckinpah and O'hara what a combination!
-
This is the one Fort Apache image I have. Its the near ending death scene for the Officers and non-coms. Notice that Duke is in that shot even if he was not in the movie ;-))
Then and now! Although slightly different poses.
I took my shot standing in what is now the car park at Goulding's Lodge museum.

Got my hands on the new Twilight Time blu ray of "Our Man Flint". It wasn't the dramatic improvement I had hoped for, but is the best rendition that this film will ever have.
Despite a lot of intentionally cheezy special effects shots, this still holds up as sort of a rival contender of Bond, as well as a spoof of the genre. Neither Matt Helm nor Austin Powers. This is due to the selection of James Coburn who was finally given a starring role. He had appeared in Magnificent Seven, Hell is For Heroes, Charade, Major Dundee and The Great Escape and appeared to be lurching toward stardom. This is the one rocketed him to the top.
Worth a look.
We deal in lead, friend.
Wow that was quick! It only came out a few days ago!!
I've learnt my lesson with Twilight Time and ordered my copy early, I've missed out on a few and the prices they sell for now are ludicrous!
I hope my copy makes its way across the pond quickly!
I love the Flint films wish they'd made more than 2.I watched The Lost Weekend starring Ray Milland as an alcoholic writer.
Billy Wilder was a genius, to turn in an Oscar-winning film so stark and nihilistic as The Lost Weekend and some of the greatest comedies of all time is no mean feat! -
Sorry I've been absent for a while. My knee went out last Thursday and I still can't get upstairs to my computer! I'm using an iPad, which I hate...anyway, here is the dvdbeaver.com review of The Quiet Man. More mouthwatering screencaps.
Get better soon Paula, you have been missed!
I have to say Maureen O'hara is so beautiful in those screen grabs.
-
Nice shot, but I've never really thought of here as a beauty
I think that was part of her appeal.
There's an interesting documentary about Double Indemnity where they state she was specifically chosen for her 'less obvious' looks.I watched a few of her films over Christmas, She was an actress who really had some talent.
-
Damn! Missed another. Congratulations on 1500 posts Ringo Kid.
P.S. I'm right behind you!
-
Sorry, I got confused in my not liking Lady for a Night.
The film I watched at Christmas was Lady takes a Chance, which I didn't enjoy, lol.
It transpires I've never seen Lady for a Night, so must watch it soon, before February! -
Now you say next batch in january, Does there seem to be a pattern here? Are they releasing regularly every few months Dooley?
Hi Wtrayah, I've been off JWMB for a bit and totally missed this one!
Yes they do seem to be releasing at quite a rate, there are 3 more early Duke titles AND the Quiet Man all out in Jan and already Lady for a Night scheduled for Feb! Long may these releases continue! -
Olive Films comes through again!
They will release Lady for a Night on blu-ray and DVD on February 26.
I really didn't enjoy this one when I watched it on DVD at Christmas. Not sure how much the rubbish quality had to do with it. I think I'll wait for a review of this one, got 4 other Duke titles on their way soon so that should keep me occupied.
-
Oh, movies YOU need to see like: The Scarlet Coat, The Wild Geese yadda yadda yadda.:lol:
Have you seen Wild Geese on blu ray yet Carl?
It's not brilliant quality all the way through but a big step up from the somewhat poor DVD. Also stars a Duke Pal in the Saddle in Hardy Kruger which keeps the Duke link in there! -
Sugarfoot with Randolph Scott.
A bit lightweight, but that has as much to do with his character in the film as the film itself. -
I can't wait for this one. The DVD is such poor quality!
I will be wearing my big newsboy cap in honour when I watch it.
Ethankeith, is all this being re-posted on the Olive Films thread too? It should be! -
The Gauntlet
I also enjoyed the movie, but I thought the action parts were totally over the top
to the point of absurdity.
Did they really have to fire so many rounds of bullets
that the house collapsed??
They did the same to the constables car,
and I don't believe it blew up!!Yes, it was a great idea but Clint could have done better!
Agreed on all counts... but that doesn't stop me loving it! Some films I enjoy regardless of their shortcomings.
