    Thanks Chester.

We watched The Searchers the day before leaving the UK so we were well set up. My wife is thankfully quite taken by The Duke having been subjected to many evenings of his films since we have been together. Photos to follow.

    Hi all,
just wanted to share that last week I fulfilled a childhood dream of visiting Monument Valley. I managed to convince my now wife that after being married in Las Vegas last week we would drive to Monument Valley for our honeymoon.
It truly was as magical as I hoped it would be and even though we were there for 5 days it never stopped taking my breath away every morning.
Mustang trekking around the Mittens etc with a local guide was simply awe inspiring, I have never taken so many photographs in my life!
I was so inspired by the place that I set my alarm for 4am, much to my wife's dismay, to set up timelapse photography of the sunrise; every morning!
If you haven't been and you have a nostalgic affinity with the place through The Duke's films I cannot recommend going enough.
Back in the UK now, wishing I was still there!
All the best to all on the forum.
    Regards,
    Peter

Saw "Fort Apache" on blu ray. If you need an excuse to spring for a Blu Ray player, this title will do. I've never seen such depth and clarity. To be fair, some of the close ups are grainy but the picture is breathtaking.

    We deal in lead, friend.

Thanks Gorch, I have my copy of Fort Apache here waiting to get a chance to sit down and enjoy it. I see it has a monument valley docu on there too which I'm itching to see, as I'm going there on my honeymoon road trip in a few weeks!

I watched Rio Lobo on blu ray and it is stunning, it's so good it even makes the mediocre film more enjoyable!

[quote='wtrayah','http://dukewayne.com/bb/index.php?thread/&postID=107791#post107791']Another thing i don't understand, Why is it some of his movies, ( like this one ) are RARELEY seen on tv? My Dad ( who is 80 years old and a big JW fan ) until recently has never seen this movie before!

Totally agree, I class myself as a pretty avid fan yet had never seen this on TV in the UK. I bought it when it came out on DVD and couldn't believe it had been so overlooked. In my opinion it's one of JW's best non western with a great performance, superb supporting cast and genuinely tense. Not sure if some networks only have access to the more mainstream offerings. Luckily it's now widely available so it may finally get the recognition it deserves.

I much prefer to buy genuine region one releases. No real reason other than it just being a quirk of mine.

    Totally understand the quirk.
I've been replacing many of my UK DVDs from the various studios with the USA Region 1 releases 'The John Wayne Collection' so that all the covers match with the gold band across the top!

    Great Peter,
Where are you in the UK?

    Hi Keith, in Weybridge, Surrey.

Quick question. Is there a way of knowing when someone has replied to a post as I only find by actually checking each thread, which as I get going, will be really difficult to follow.

    Peter

Just remembered there's also an official version in the UK as part of the 'Wayne in Action' Boxset: The Magnificent Showman as it was released here. Annoyingly the big 34 film 'John Wayne Collection' DVD boxset omitted 2 films from the smaller boxsets: The Magnificent Showman in the 'Wayne in Action' and The Long Voyage Home in the 'Wayne John Ford collection'.

Agreed, it is not an official release but the quality is on par with some of the official John Wayne films from the same era I have. There are a couple of official region 2 (European) releases I am aware of from Holland so if you have a multi region player you could try those. In fact I've ordered one of the dutch releases so I'll post a comparison of the official and unofficial releases when it comes through.

Thanks for all the great images. This has to be one of my all time fave Duke films. It's real edge of your seat stuff and his performance is superb and nuanced. I find it a far superior film to The High and Mighty.

This is quite a hard one to track down in the UK on DVD. Watched it for the first time in eons and actually really enjoyed it: Claudia Cardinale helps!

I have a specific question. Does anyone know if the set used for the circus training area, almost looks like a cave, is an old set from another film? Looks like an old Universal horror set.

Howdy! Newbie to the forum but not to the Duke! UK based fan who grew up watching the Duke with his Grandfather. Thought it was about time I got on to ask the questions I'll only find the answers to here! Peter
