It's been so long I don't remember. I either found it on eBay or Amazon. I will tell you there are a lot of them on eBay right now that say they are NTSC DVD's but they have to be pirated or bootleg. Or copied from VHS which is the same as pirated. You might even check The John Wayne Film Society. We have some of those members on here. I am one and they have several movies available on DVD that we don't have here. You could email them also at: [email protected]

WARNING: A word to the wise... the ones that are on eBay that say they are region free and are NTSC format I have found out they are from Hong Kong. In other words they are bootleg/pirated copies of the movie. They are usually a really crappy video. Here's the response after I questioned them on how they had an NTSC format.

    Quote from Duke Pirate

[FONT=Arial, Verdana]My location in Hong Kong, Original DVD release in Hong Kong, Area code for all code area. Asia region availabe format for NTSC, O.k?

In other words they are crooks, scum, bootleggers, etc.

I do have a DVD of Circus World that was released by Reel Corporation and the DVD is PAL format and media is locked to region(s): 1 2 3 4 5 6. Most computer DVD players will pay it because it looks at the region only not the format. But a normal stand alone DVD player will not recognize the format. If your video card connects to your TV you can play the video through your computer and my computer has 5.1 Surround to listen to the audio. So if you have a decent computer you can grab a copy of Circus World on DVD.

I would reckon it was to prevent the stagecoach from getting into town too quickly and notifying the sheriff who would organise a posse after Liberty & the gang.

    Mike

Exactly, the number of horses in front of a stagecoach determined how long it would take. If it was a long trip they might even have 6 so they don't get tired too quickly and or course the stations they would stop at to change horses for fresh ones. If you ever watch Encore Westerns, or read True West magazine, Bob Boze Bell has a lot of interesting info on things just like this. The longer it took to get back to town the more time Liberty had to get back south of the picket wire. There is a flaw in many westerns on just how fast a stage could go when being chased. Those chase scenes are just for our entertainment. Most stagecoaches were robbed bandits waiting for them and shooting to frighten the horses and they were easily stopped by someone grabbing the bit on one of the lead horses.

Too blasted hot today... I was out for about an hour and came back in with a pressure of 80/58. Took me three hours to gain my strength back. It's suppose to get even hotter tomorrow. The lower 90's for the next 10 days. YUCK! Where is Winter when you want it?

I was happy to see Back to the Future 3 so close to the top! Up there with my favorite movies  !

    Mrs. C :angel1:

I see Universal Studios park is dumping the Back to the Future ride. The wife and I went on it when I took her to Orlando a few years ago. The rides in the Universal park were pretty decent, this one included. And they are going to replace it with something from The Simpsons... give me a break. I suckered the wife to go on Disney's Tower of Terror. That was also good.

I think everyone thinks real money is whatever they use in their country. My gripe with US dollars was why the hell do all the denominations have to look the same.

They don't look the same anymore... the $100's, $50's, $20 & $10's have all been colorized. Different security features have been added to the bills. And I;d rather have them the same size instead of having like a huge 10,000 Lire note and a skimpy 500 Lire note. Different sizes were a pain when I lived in Europe

Postage works out about seven dollars about £3.50 in real money and I consider that to be quite reasonable.

    Regards.

    Arthur

Real money... when I first visited Europe it all looked like Monopoly money. If yours is real money why is ours always copied and the market always runs on how the might dollar is doing? Especially now that we're going to back to dollar coinage. I remember my first 10,000 Lire and though it was funny money as big as it was.

I have a 1990 £5 pound note in my hands and the silver strip is visible and looks like it's falling out.

    :hyper:

I have most of Tim's books too. They are a great read. Worth every penny and not by the pound. :)

I found the book cheaper on Barnes and Noble... $31.96 And I'm suppose to get it in a couple days. I basically want it for the release order but my list won't change. I spent over an hour last night and went through every book I have that has Duke's filmography in it... some of them don't even have the last dozen or so movies since they came out before Duke passed but even those never mentioned the 5 in question. AFI, NYTimes, UCLA Archive, about 6 books with a filmography, Official JW Site are all the places I checked. If they are listed in this book I'm waiting for it will be the first that lists them.

There are a handful of movies that will never be complete, the UCLA archives show which ones are for instance missing reels and such. Some are in very poor condition. If you ever give up on Amazon try B&N, I know they have it.

I am also waiting for my copy of the filmography you mentioned... the table of contents alone has me drooling waiting to see the back sections of the book. I don't think anything will change but I do want a good listing by release date and revenue numbers.

I'm not sure why he doesn't accept that either... it would make it easier but it might be a hassle for him. That other book he puts out every year is over 100 pages so that's not something you can just throw together, he probably spends all year just to release the next volume. The next one comes out in November. Plus any book signings he has to go to. He was at Winterset for a day on Duke's birthday.

I bought There Rode A Legend while I was in Winterset so I saved on postage there along with a couple other books by Roger Crowley.

I've also found some other books that look interesting and one is actually brand new and doesn't come out until October 2007. It looks like a good one...

    It's $12 pre-order, only 128 pages, it's called and written by:
"The Quotable John Wayne: The Grit and Wisdom of an American Icon"
by John Wayne, Carol Lea Mueller.

I'm not "knocking" anything... as many people say on here we are all entitled to our opinions. I simply stated mine and the reason why. I'm saying the majority of the books do not reference these items at all so I use another list which is my choice. I'm sure a lot of work went into a lot of things but there will always be controversy as to what should or shouldn't be counted. That can't be stopped and it shouldn't be stopped since we are all entitled to our opinions. I'll use one final reference, even the official site doesn't list them. And I had nothing to do with that list, Ethan and the office did. They have the other old movies like Annie Laurie, Mother Macgree, Great K&A Train Robbery and others but not the five I mentioned.

If I'm going to be scolded for stating my opinion then what's the use of even posting. And I brought it up in here because this Hamilton shorts is one of the controversies. I'm not flaming or spamming simply stating an opinion. And we'll never agree because we never have agreed since another controversy.

All the books I have that show JW's films those are not listed and neither are 4 others from the filmography list on here. I have his film count at 167 where he can be actually seen in the film even if it's very brief. And how can you count small little 20 min. comedy skits? So I don't even include these 5 in my spreadsheets. I checked AFI's Catalog and even the giant NY Times FilmTracker both of which are more reputable than IMDB.

    1928. HAM HAMILTONS COMEDIES- (Fox)
    1929. STRONG BOY- (Fox)
1930. THE LONE STAR RANGER- (Fox)
1931. WOMEN OF ALL NATIONS- (Fox)
1931. THE SWEETHEART OF SIGMA CHI- (Fox)

Yup, you gotta put it on your "to order" list for sure. I enjoyed the DVD very much. I did think the part where Duke rides through an old ghost town was a bit sad, but it was fun seeing all those stars from my youth together again. I don't think they could do something like that now. With current Stars and what they make today, there just ain't that much money to get them all together.

If it was a tribute, political or charitable thing I doubt they would charge. Look what Jerry Lewis puts together every year and they don't get money for performing. As long as they get SAG's approval and the person donates their time. They have tons of actors on for that 21 hour event.

I have the book that came out with the original album. The book was published in 1977. The book contains info about each song, photos and the sheet music for the song along with the lyrics. He gives a three page description for this song. In the book he says:

    Quote from John Wayne-Copyright 1977

"It's no real chore for me to write about The Good Things of America, although I wondered for quite a while as to why it was so hard to start. Then it came to me loud and clear. there are so many good things about America, I found myself trying to eliminate hundreds of them and I might at least not write a book on the subject. It was then that I decided to dwell upon facets of America that in each case covers a sea of individual Good Things."

There are three more pages of what he felt about the song. The book is excellent reading. The book was published by Simon and Schuster, New York with Billy Liebert and John Mitchum. The back of the dust cover has a short statement by Duke which he signs. This is the book cover:

    Looks like the album cover.
