The oldest John Wayne movie I remember him in is "Texas Cyclone" in 1932 where he played a Sheriff. I loved him as the pastor in Sergeant York. But he was best in "The Real McCoys", which lasted 6 years.

I can't believe I just found this, but they are advertising big game hunting in Africa again. The Big 6 is what they are calling it... "Information on hunting lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and hippo in Southern Africa." And Wayne's 458 Mag would have been sufficient. They only require a minimum of a 375 mag but they prefer you use a 458. So there may be some truth to the story, I hate to say. But like you said, different time, different mindset. They allow it now due to over-population in most areas.

I've checked all my sources... I have it on VHS and transferred it to DVD but the only DVD is from ByGoneVideo who recorded it off a 16mm film. I doubt I ever complete my collection since some of them are missing.

I doubt he did it for sport. What's illegal is killing them for the ivory tusks. If it was a do or die situation they may not have had a choice. From what I've read they spook easy. If your in to animal rights, I'd think there would have been more problems when they filmed Circus World and all those caged animals.

I put the DVD in my computer DVD player, start the movie in either Nero Showtime or Cyberlink PowerDVD and pause it at the specific frame then use the capture portion of the software. Open the capture in a program like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop, then manipulate it or save it under a common image format (jpg, gif, tif, bmp, etc.) and then place the images on an online hosting service. I'm a computer guru, been doing this stuff for 20+ years. All it takes if the right equipment, software and knowledge.

I bet if you took the images and put them in a computer aided design program the angle of the shot wouldn't put him above the bar. There were a lot of mistakes and errors like this in all the westerns. They did what they had to back then, today they call it computer generated.

I couldn't post any more than 4 photos but if you look at the bar the glass is visible in photo 3 and the bar ends before the post he is leaning against which has to be close to the ladder that took him into the loft. You see the ladder way in the corner on the first image below. The layout just doesn't work. Then when the Sheriff shoots the guy, where he lands can't work out either. The only thing that might explain the difference is you see the blood on his leg after he falls, the blood could have traveled in the loft and found a hole at the end of some floor board.

Blood being thicker than the thing they called beer back in those days, it wouldn't take much blood for the beer to become colored as you can see in the images. One other point though... in image 3, you see where the guy was standing/shot by the Sheriff... he's an awful long ways from being over the top of the beer glass.

Even if they are Region 2 it's easy to make them work for any region using a couple simple programs. I have Circus World that was a PAL release but I bought it and made myself a Region 1 copy. Came out picture perfect. This is a list of John Wayne movies I don't have:

    Adventure's End
    Annie Laurie
    Arizona (Men Are Like That)
    Baby Face (Purchased)
    Bardelys the Magnificent
    Born Reckless
    California Straight Ahead
    Central Airport
    Cheer Up and Smile
    College Coach
    Four Sons
    Girls Demand Excitement
    Hangman's House
    I Cover the War
    Lady and Gent
    Maker of Men
    Men Without Women
    Mother Machree
    New Frontier
    Noah's Ark
    Range Feud
    Rough Romance
    Salute
    Speakeasy
    That's My Boy
    The Black Watch
    The Deceiver
    The Forward Pass
    The Great K&A Train Robbery
    The Lawless Nineties
    The Life of Jimmy Dolan
    The Lonely Trail
    The New Frontier
    The Night Riders
    The Oregon Trail
    The Voice of Hollywood #13
    Three Girls Lost
    Three Texas Steers
    Words and Music
    Wyoming Outlaw

Whatever region, it doesn't matter, even PAL. I'd be interested in knowing where I can get them. My goal is to get the entire collection. These are the only ones I'm missing.

Duke: Hey, will you get someone in here to clean up this animal poop. It's starting to stink like Red.

Red: I resent that remark... while your at it, ask them to bring me another *hic* keg of beer.

Kruger: (thinking to himself) Boy, I could rap myself around that little Italian girl!

Martinelli: (thinking to herself) Hunka, hunka German love.

My wife got me the Ultimate Collector's Edition for Xmas. I loved the comic book and the book with all the clips and articles in it. Then the other envelope with all the set photos was great too. I'd like to see a similar set done for The Comancheros or The Conqueror with some info about all the stories and the sickness that followed that filming. We've lost a lot of great actors/actresses from that film set. You don't hear much about his family. I wonder if Patrick has any health problems?

I've bought some of the movies from the bygonevideos website. He's pretty willing to put it on any format you want. He's taking them from 16mm film and burning them using the same kind of burner I use.

Greeting everyone. Been trying to join here for awhile now. Kevin can tell you it's been quite a chore. But I am very happy to be here.

I've been a John Wayne fan since I was very young. I met him once when I was out in California and we were touring the studios, I was pretty young but I remember my parents telling me my eyes lite up like Christmas lights.

Now I'm 52, retired and living in Illinois. Depending on my wife's work schedule we're planning on going to the 100th Birthday Celebration in Winterset. We live only 235 miles from Winterset so the trip will be short. We just need to figure out where to stay since I'm sure reservations are hard to come by by now.

I have some memorabilia but my pride and joy is my DVD collection of his movies. I have every single one of his movies, that has been released on DVD. Last count was 128 movies or 77% of the complete collection. The oldest movie I have of his is the 1926 "Brown of Harvard".

I'm happy to be here and let me know if I can be of any assistance. That'll be the day.
