Hi Ringo,
A couple of years ago my wife and I visited Tangmere Air Force museum which is just outside of Chichester which is about ten miles from Portsmouth. Tangmere was the site of a world war two fighter airfield and for a time Douglas Bader and the Canadian flier served there. In the miuseum are many planes English German and American and some very interesting photographs. One for instance is in the early 1900s and is labelled The Air Force and shows the entire British Air Force as it was then.
Another one shows the medal ribbons of a Pilot. Amazingly his decorations start off with an Iron Cross and then go ont to his British medals. I don't know his name but apparently he served in the German Air Force in the First World War and the British Air Force during the Second World War.
I wonder if he was unique, or were there more like him.
Regards
Arthur
