Posts from Hondo Duke Lane in thread „On This Day“

I must say that I really enjoyed what you have written and learned a lot from your posts on this thread. Thanks Arthur for this great history lesson. I will keep this as a chronology of the poeple of Duke's life.

It is funny that you ended this on page 99 and of course we have this on page 100.

    Thanks again, Arthur.

    Cheers Hondo

I didn't know that they had a roast of him. I never seen it.

and on that same day 47 years ago the actor Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer died aged 31. One of the original member of the Our Gang series of pictures he also appeared in The High and the Mighty. Later falling on hard times he became involved in an arguement over an unpaid debt and was shot.

He also appeared in Island in the Sky. I didn't know that he was in The High and the Mighty, so I looked him up and realized he was in both.

    Arthur,

I couldn't agree with you more. This is a great board, and I really enjoy coming here when I can. You along with many others make this a pleasure to come to. I have learned so much about John Wayne, and the life around him that when someone talks about him and get the information wrong, I pipe right in and tell them the facts. It is such a joy to meet with so many of you here from around the world that I almost feel like we are such old friends. And I haven't been to many of the places that you come from.

My wish for everyone here is that we find the peace and love that was given to us many years ago and spread it to all man-kind. That includes all our ladies. This has been a joy.

I was going to ask you Arthur about who Shirley's name so I went to the bio section and found out that she was Shirlee Maye Adams by birth. She did keep Fonda as her last name after his death.

Hard to believe that Natalie Wood has been gone for 24 years. She would be 65 today, and that's hard to believe as well. Seeing her in Miracle on 34th Street as a little girl and as a teen in The Searchers, it's hard to see them at the age they are, and I just can't believe that she was 43 at that time. Wow was she ever pretty.

    Hey Arthur,

I think you errored, and I'm not sure what it is. I know that I Married A Woman was out back in the '50s.

Forrest Tucker was only 67 years old when he died? Didn't know that. How did he die? That was young, well you know what I mean. I was not aware of his death at that age.

I knew he died, but I thought he was much older than that.

I thought he was closer to Duke's age. He would be 86 today if still alive.

    Arthur,

Could you tell me who you are talking about? I don't understand who this is.

    Arthur,

Hope you have a good holiday. We'll miss you and your posting daily, but we'll have enough to read from you.

By the way, is there any good albums from Elmer Bernstein out there?

I was not aware that in McLintock! that Jerry Van Dyke's father was the senator. Very surprise about that.

    Arthur,

I really enjoy your posts here. It gives a proper prospective toward events around Duke's life, and like the lines from some of the movies. Keep it up my friend.

    Arthur,

What a tribute, and a touching memorial. Thanks chilibill for your contributions to this as well. His spirit is still living in each and everyone of us here on this message board. I regret that so many today were not there when he made his movies and walk among us on this land. Though I bet many of us didn't meet Duke, we felt like he'd welcome us as a good friend.

I'm kind of glad that Duke is not here today, I think he'd be disappointed in our landscape. He was concerned in his last public interview with Barbara Walters. I saw that interview a few years ago. He expressed concern about the way things were going in this world and in some ways he was right.

I can read about his life and see his movies, and can escape from reality if only for a little while. Thank you, Duke. I am grateful for what you have given us.

Arthur, thank you for the special service.

    Hey Arthur,

What's going with the prep of Duke 26 years ago? I can't remember when the funeral was, and what the family was doing at the time. It has been a long time.
