I watched Man of the West with Gary Cooper. What a violent movie!

Hello Vera
I think it was because it was a new process and the cinemas were not set up to show it? But other members might be able to tell you more
Hi Elly,
It was rithoric question. I'm guessing not because I don't know reasons, but becouse the movie itself is so enjoyable (still enjoyable and at 1930 it must be terrific impression).

Hi Elly,
The 70 mm version of Big Trail is sure great, I can't understand why it wasn't succesful in box office?

The Alamo in widescreen version (thanks Elly) and it sure was different from my vhs version.

The Stranger Wore a Gun with Randolph Scott and Claire Trevor. It was interesting to see them together.

Jesse James wth Tyrone Power as Jesse, Henry Fonda as Frank and Randolph Scott as the Liberty, Mo sherriff. It was actually a very well made film. I would recommend it. Made in I believe 1939 and filmed in color as well.
Hi Todd,
I saw this film, but wasn't impressed by it at all. But the cast in it is sure brilliant.

Vera

MacLintock, which collector edition I picked up in Helsinki this week. I found out that they had released many of new DVD editions for Finland lately, amoung them collector editions of Batjac releases, new two-disc Rio Bravo, Cowboys and colored Lone Star Duke movies. All of them labeled spesially as a 100 anneversary relases.
I like Maclintock for a long time, but all thia time had a poor copy. So now I was completly striked by this DVD (how much our impression depends on DVD quality!)

Hi Carl,
I already received one Cooper collection and watched Springfield Rifle from there which you highly recommended. And I like this film too.
Also saw great documentary about Cooper hosted by Clint Eastwood.

Hi Vera, the first time I saw this movie, I did not care much for it but, every time I watch it, I like it a bit more and more. I still don't think it was one of Coopers best movies though-not in the same league as movies like: Vera Cruz, Sgt York, Jones If Coming, Pride of the Yankees, Springfield Rifle, Ball of Fire and Beau Geste. I think the reason why I like this movie is because of the performances of the main actors in it.
Hi Carl,
After you post I watched They Came to Cordura again and like it more (never mind what Duke said). With me it is rather often when I lake movie more when watch it for the second time. I think it is mostly becouse of the language problems - I simply understand more from the second screening. From other Cooper's titles you mention - I saw yet only Vera Cruz and Sgt York. But hope to see others soon.
Yesterday watched Cecil de Mille Union Pacific and was greatly dissapointed by it.

Also, don't know if its actually a Western or War Movie but, I saw They Came To Cordura, .
Hi Carl,
What do you think of it. I too watched it last night and have mixed impression. Must think more about it. I've read in one of Duke biographies that he didn't like this movie - I can understand why. But Cooper and Hayworth performanses were great in it.

Fighting Caravans with Gary Cooper and Lily Damita. By the way it has many similiarities with The Big Trail.

this was my first Gary Cooper on DvD I bought.
Thanks for watching this and reminding me Vera
Hi Carl,
By the way it was my first Gary Cooper film I ever seen. And to say truth he didn't impress me much at that time. I was impressed by High Noon when first saw it at TV, but began really like him after Sergant York.
Now I like Vera Cruz much more. I think it was brilliant idea to cast Cooper opposite Burt Lancaster. And of course many familiar faces add much too.

Vera Cruz - fine western with Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster.

Rio Bravo yesterday. One of my favorites and it was interesting to watch it after High Noon.

I cought in early morning (as I could not get back to sleep) I think it was called: The Last Outlaw? w/ Hoot Gibson and Harry Carey Sr?
It was silent? I saw only one silent movie - Winning of Barbara Worth and it was interesting. Always wanted to see some early silent movies with Harry Carey Sr. But they are not shown here. So I saw only photos from Fords silent movies with Carey in the book about Ford. Photos were sure impressive.
