Posts from Hawkswill in thread „What Was The Last Western You Watched?“

Jay, Maureen is no longer beautiful. She is old. Yet she has a timeless beauty that even years cannot peel away. She and Duke DID have some great chemistry...........tis a shame though
that he didn't do more with Kate Hepburn.......Now THAT was chemistry! I would show you but I no longer want to fight the picture process here. You are welcome to the Facebook page NewFrontier. Might like it,LOL..........we do. KEITH

"Rio Grande." I think Maureen O'Hara was one of the most beautiful actresses ever and she and Duke had exquisite chemistry. Have seen some of her recent photos and she is still very beautiful.

Right you are Colkid. If you look ir up, you will find a bunch of screen catches of the fight between Duke and Ward. We did it on the Group Watch once. It clearly shows the doubles used when Duke and Ward could easily have done those stunts themselves. Have a good one, KEITH

Tall in the Saddle, a very good Duke movie, Good quality Black and White. The second time I have seen it.

Sorry there Alamo. This is what was said: If I seem a bit rushed it is because I am listening to OK......LAHOMA..............did you know JC Flippen and James Whitmore where in it.........besides my Gordon, LOL! Miss ya Kiddo. KEITH! Tommy, I LOVE THAT MOVIE! Thanks, KP Love Firecreek also! KP

"I don't have a I don't have a very clear copy to take this from, but this in in the very last scene where they all sing Oklahomal James and JC, very clear copy to take this from, but this in in the very last scene where they all sing Oklahomal James and JC, "

Sorry, thought you were still talking about Firecreek-didn't noticed the change to Oklahoman!

vHon d and W Ill &#1.jpgDidn't Mark put you in the Legendary Male and Female Singers, Kiddo? That is HIS group and he is the only Admin. You knew he is a good friend of Tony Bennett didn't you? Also an authority on antiques. He loves it when you and I get a long conversation going. I think we had a record on the Fan Club one, LOL!

I watched Hondo for a bit last night to capture some clips I needed for an article. Boy, that Blue Ray copy makes you feel like you can just walk right into the scene! One thing I needed was Terry Wilson doubling for Duke in the knife fight. Wish I could post it, but it won't take my clips......only ones from Youtube. Facebook takes them though. At least it will take the stills.....here is one where Buff is welcoming Hondo to the fort and says he will take care of his horse so he can "hit the hay", LOL. CYA, KEITH

Haha I don't mind their age it's just critics got pretty Hard on the likes of Duke, Jimmy and Hank as they got older and wanted them to hang it up leading to some very good films being overlooked. I'm always about on facebook Keith, follow all your posts in the Sinatra group and such saw that nice picture of Barbara McNair and Elvis you posted yesterday! I'm always around just sometimes don't have alot to say, always learning though!

Hi there Alamo! Happy New Year!

Think maybe you are thinking of a different Oklahoma? I KNEW James Whitmore was in it, but I looked it up to see if Ed Begley Sr. or Jr. were in it..........couldn't find them. Might be there, but they don't show up in cast and crew. James played Andrew Carnes......believe this is him. James Whitmore Ok.jpgJames Whitmore Ja&.jpgHAH, I don't have a very clear copy to take this from, but this in in the very last scene where they all sing Oklahomal James and JC, just happen to be standing together on the porch. Sorry it is blurry, but you should be able to recognize them.

This is the casting call for his character..........looks as if they found the right one for the part, LOL:
Andrew Carnes: (Supporting) Strong character actor-singer, must move well. Baritone-tenor (F to high F). Dry humor, big presence, able to be intimidating. Described in script as a “scrappy little man.” Non-Equity male actor-singer who moves well.

After meeting Gordon for the first time.......I must have watched this movie and played the album he autographed to me a hundred times, LOL!

Learn something new every day! Have a good one, KEITH

QUOTE=alamo221;133463]no James Whitmore, you may be thinking of Ed Begley. Great performances all around tho-
AHA Gareth, been missing ya elsewhere, LOL! EXCUSE ME.......DESPITE THEIR AGE THEY ARE GREAT? BeCAUSE of their age THEY ARE GREAT! Just TRY to find actors like that now! OK, we are buddies........I will BOW to you IF you can find them! AHA..............I am ready.......who are they? If I seem a bit rushed it is because I am listening to OK......LAHOMA..............did you know JC Flippen and James Whitmore where in it.........besides my Gordon, LOL! Miss ya Kiddo. KEITH! Tommy, I LOVE THAT MOVIE! Thanks, KP

Love this movie, really underatted Western, despite their age Stewart and Fonda are both great.

    Hi Tommy,

Haven't seen that Gunhill one........it is on my list now. Have had Chato's Land for a while from Peter, (Dooley), and have watched it lots......really enjoy it.
Can't WAIT until you get your camera back. Would love a pic of the three framed for a page on one of my sites. I sold almost all the others for $50, so.......you didn't do badly there with your answers to the questions for free. I am selling the prints for $10.........made 100 of each of the ones I liked and have sold a goodly amount of them, plus I have done a lot of special order types. The guy LOVED all The SHOOTIST ones, but.......not allowed to put them on the site yet.......just the ones I had done earlier and posted here. If I don't talk to you soon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours~! KEITH

    Christmas tree a&#110.gif

Last night I watched Chato's Land a great movie with a star cast.

Hi Rocklin, Well, I knew Dale when I was a kid.......don't think I have seen that.....will have to get it. Also have not seen the others you mentioned. Thanks. By the way, weren't YOU the one who framed the drawings and was going to send a picture to me a while ago? Maybe it was someone else, Tommy.

Gareth, that little talk we started on the FS Fan Club took off on its own. People, including Mark have given you a bunch of Bob Mitchum's songs to listen to, (including Thunder Road which he wrote),......also some of Frank and Dino's early movies. Fun post that turned into a small EPIC, LOL. I posted in here in Pals of the Saddle Male.......named it Davy Crockett/Daniel Boone. But, it is on that same FB post I just told you about.....Mark came up with the Daniel Boone beautiful post of Daniel and Mingo in a canoe full of pelts and Ed Ames, (Mingo) just belting out his "ballad". Funny, I live just south of Booneville. He lived closer to me, but he would go up there a LOT and take people with him to hunt. Check out the FS post.......you won't beLIEVE how long it is!

Last Western I watched was The Cowboys again. Trying to get the music right for a blog. KEITH

Two more westerns that I watched last night I had not seen before are A Day Of Fury 1956 starring Jock Mahoney and Dale Robertson and Massacre River 1949 starring Guy Madison and Rory Calhoun two good movies

Sounds very interesting, thanks. Forgot to say I was watching The Cowboys AGAIN. I can now listen to the score and SEE the scenes in my mind, LOL. Also love to watch the extras. Great to hear everyone talking about the movie and their experiences. We are burning daylight and I am getting ready for my crying scene. Oh, for those who haven't seen the extras....those boys were actually Scared to death of Bruce even on the set. To hear them talk about that as grown men is quite something. When came time for Bruce to kill Duke......Duke had really beat Bruce up against the tree the day before and had truly hurt him. So, when Duke told him he was going to be hated everywhere, he said, "But they are going to love me in Berkeley". What a SUPER movie. Although the movie itself is fantastic..........seeing the extras really give you insight to things you wouldn't notice otherwise.

And although I LOVE all the music........that Vivaldi piece that Slim learns to play and does and then the orchestra plays it as horses, cows, and wranglers head straight up hill.........well, you just should get the whole experience. As many times as I have watched it........I never skip any of it. Also, it is good on regular DVD but the Blue Ray is Great!

Charlie, the one boy who dies on the trail is in the extras as a man. He says How many people can say Duke Wayne read their eulogy and buried them. Wouldn't be surprised if that is put on his tombstone should he chose that route............Duke Wayne buried me once! If you haven't watched it because Duke dies.....and it IS a rough death...........do yourself a favor. Watch it. It is really something! You may dislike Bruce Dern for a while, LOL.......and it DID hurt his career a bit...........but it is worth it. KEITH

    "Maverick" (1994)
-Mel Gibson, James Garner, Jodie Foster

    Plot:
A gambler, a lawman and a con woman head to a poker championship, where conning is the name of the game.

Phantoms Review: I love this movie. One of the few tv show to movie adaptations, that actually works. The movie makers are able to capture the feel of the tv classic, without doing a carbon copy imitation. The acting is terrific, the humor spot on, and the story is very entertaining. A wonderful movie.

How good is Randolph Scott? I liked him with Duke in Pittsburgh (one of my favorite less known Duke movies) and The Spoilers, would Ride The High Country, Seven Men From Now etc be my kind of thing?

Hi Kiddo, where you been? HAPPY 800 posts! Now you can tell me Hi Keith Happy 2000 posts, LOL!

Peter, (Dooley), and I both started watching Randy's movies over a year ago........Colin the blogger of Riding the High Country got us started. Start with that one, and email me........I will give you our list of favorites. That guy really grows on you! Got a new place for you.........having M send you an invite. Have a good one, KEITH

    Drums Ward Hank..jpg
Drums along the Mohawk....Ford's 1939 great movie with lots of folks you know. Hank Fonda and Claudette Colbert........WARD was great in this.l One of my favorites. Pappy even lets his brother say some lines and be a hero! KEITH

Keep forgetting about the pics.......I WILL get them full size eventually!

One of my favorites also, Kevin. Love it that Ward is Duke's "boss" in most of the movie. The hat throw was great.....still want to get someone who can read lips to tell us what Duke said to Ward.,boy was he mad! He said in later interviews that it hit right on his nipple and hurt like H..L. I WILL find someone who can read lips to tell us what he said to Ward. Too bad my Dad is gone.....he could have told us.

Watching the Searchers on TCM. My favorite John Wayne movie.

One of my favorite Duke movies, Gareth. As you probably know, he and Katherine planned to do another one called "Someday", as she mentioned that word in their relationship in the film. One of my favorite dialogues is still the ending of that movie: [last lines]
Eula Goodnight:" Reuben, I have to say it. Livin' with you has been an adventure any woman would relish for the rest o' time. I look at cha, with your burned out face and your big belly and your bear-like paws and your shining eye, and I have to say you're a credit to the whole male sex, and I'm proud to have ya for my friend. " She whips her horse around and rides off to meet the Indian Boy.

Rooster Cogburn:" I'll be damned if she didn't get the last word in again. Well..."

It is strange that I find myself ending off a story or an email like that............sort of says it all. Well...................... KEITH

I think Rooster is really underatted, fun movie don't see the problem so many critics and non Duke fans seem to have with it. Wouldn't have minded another Cogburn movie even if Duke was getting older.

Showdown with Rock Hudson and Dean Martin, was a decent Western from the latter part of their careers, seeing ol Dino is always a treat though.

LOL Gareth, Dino used to say that Westerns were the easiest job he had. He said they sort of did themselves. I think I have Showdown but don't remember it. Have to look, thanks! KEITH And I agree with you there........seeing or hearing Dino in ANYTHING is a treat.......man that guy sure loved life and his fellow man.....can't leave off Golf......his favorite passion........was GOOD at it too.

Well, My Bill, although I cry a lot.......I am not really depressed. I saw Duke and a lot of others give a fantastic performance. And I DO love the music. I can about quote The Shootist!

I have watched ALL of HGWT about 3 times and some episodes a great deal more. One of my favorites is a two parter about Jody Town. You got to that yet? If Netflix still had it........I would STILL be watching it over.

Tonight I watched Mountain Men with Chuck Heston and Brian Keith again. Although there is a lot of comedy, it is the first movie about the AMM that I can say was pretty realistic. None have been better in my estimation. Damn they killed my Brian Keith off near the end........loved that guy! Hugs to all, KEITH

Keith, if you weren't depressed before your double feature, you must be now.
Since I've been binging on Have Gun Will Travel, I had a Richard Boone double header and watched A Thunder of Drums and Rio Conchos.
Now if we both watch The Alamo I can see Boone again and you can see Duke bite the dust yet again.

    We deal in lead, friend.
