Posts from Gorch in thread „Leo Gordon“

Leo Gordon was omnipresent in the 1960s. One of my favorite guilty pleasures is the 1963 Mayan "epic" Kings of the Sun". There is some pretty strange casting here - Richard Basehart, Brad Dexter, Shirley Anne Field and George Chakiris as Mayans - make Duke's Conqueror look like an inspiration.
Anyway, Leo plays the leader of the bad guys who charges up the steps of the Chitzin Itza pyramid. I've been there folks, and I gave up climbing it after six steps. The height of the stairs is not regular and the Mayans had tiny feet compared to ours. A real nightmare to negotiate.
So Leo's leading his army up the pyramid in a fanatical rush, the director yells "cut", Leo realizes where he is, and lies down about halfway up. The man is terrified and can't go up or down. It took stuntmen several hours to get him to the base and the steps were stained with his blood and sweat.
That's the only take he did and it's in the film.

    We deal in lead, friend.
