    Stumpy,

I'm beginning to think it would be easier and cheaper to get a another bookcase

    Chester

I've got more bookcases now than I have room to place them. I've been a voracious reader all my life and despite giving probably a couple of hundred books and videos to various libraries, I still have many hundreds more.

Jim, I've seen them at Office Depot, and I think you can order them online. I don't have any idea how much they cost, but let me check my resources. I bought from a company a few years ago empty cassette cases (don't need them anymore due to the mp3 player I have that downloads over a thousand audios). I may find a good deal for you.

    Cheers  Hondo

Thanks for the offer, Mike, but I don't think I'll have any problem buying the cases as I've already found several sources by googling. It's the labels like they have in the regular sized-cases I wish I could find a good source that didn't charge an arm and a leg.
    Jim

The cases are the same length and width as the regular cases, Keith, but only half as thick.

One suggestion - cut the art down to size (or scan it onto your 'puter and then print it out) and use spray adhesive to stick it on the front. I think the adhesive is clear, so you could even spray it on the face and stick it to the inside of the case (clear covers, right?). Mrs. C :angel1:

You know what, Sue? I think someone could make themselves a very good living doing nothing but selling those DVD case movie labels. That is, if they could find a source for all the labels and if there weren't a lot of copyright issues involved.

I took Vista of my new desktop, and installed XP

You had a lot of company, Keith. According to various computer forums and message boards I've visited, many, many people did the same thing. I had a hard time relating to all the horror stories I've heard about Vista since I've had very few problems with it.

I will wait for SP1 then move over.

My netbook and laptop run sweetly on XP and my all-singing-all-dancing newish desktop with Vista sucks. The hard drive thrashes all the time - a common complaint about Vista.

I think I'll wait for SP1 also, Bob.

I've read all the complaints about Vista but I guess I've been lucky as I've never had all that many problems with it. Of course, I've kept up with all the updates and don't have a lot of software loaded on my two boxes (one desktop and one laptop). I have Vista Home Premium on the desktop and Vista Ultimate on the laptop. I have good malware protection on both (Norton Security Suite). I use the desktop primarily for surfing the 'net and emailing, plus storage of music & photos. The laptop is used mostly for backup of what I have on the desktop, plus taking it with me when I travel. I've got 4 gigs of RAM on the desktop and 6 gigs on the laptop. I've concluded that I actually ordered too much RAM for the laptop because it's only a 32 bit machine and is pretty slow in booting up and running scans. I'm probably gonna give the laptop to a granddaughter and buy a new one after SP1. I notice the new ones are 64 bit so they should run considerably faster.

Well, how many are gonna go with Windows 7, the latest release from MS?

I'm the type who usually likes to have the latest and greatest but I think I'll wait awhile and let the bugs be ironed out before I make the jump. All the IT types are singing its' praises but every single OS out of Redmond has had bugs that required patches. There have been many times in the past 10 or 12 years that I've been tempted to go back to Apple (I was an Apple computer user from 1984 until about 1997) but because of the vast differences in software development, I've stayed with MS.

I have tried other Google apps and just plain don't like most of them. Some of them are cool, at first, but I just don't like most of them.

I like Picasa for handling photos, especially for downsizing the file size so they can be more easily emailed. I also use Google Maps almost every day.

Just wanted to inject a little info for the possible benefit of our members.

About a week ago I read on the 'net that Microsoft was releasing Internet Explorer 8, which was supposed to remedy some of the problems encountered in earlier versions of the browser. Well, I downloaded it from the MS site (it's free) and have been using it for the past week with no problems. However, today I tried to log on to a website that requires a username and password. After entering the correct information and clicking on the log-on button, all I got was a blank screen. I tried several more times with the same result. I emailed them to see if they were having technical difficulties and lo and behold, they told me that IE8 wasn't compatible with their software. Said I'd have to download Firefox to log on. I did and it worked okay. So if you encounter problems logging onto a site and you're using IE8, that may be the cause.

    Hi Jeff,
No it is a registry problem, and as yet it remains unsolved.
Thanks for asking, and if you know the answer please tell me!

Just wondering, Keith. Is your OS Vista? If it is, there are provisions in the system for doing a complete factory reset. Of course, you would have to back up all your files and reinstall all your software but I did it on a new laptop I bought 2 or 3 months ago and it cleared up some problems I had been having.

I would venture to guess that atleast half of the parts that are in the Dell laptop you have come from China, so don't think you aren't supporting them, even indirectly, unfortunately.

You're right there, Todd. Hell, 90% of what we buy nowadays comes from China.

I have a in with Lenovo computers. They are the computer company that purchased the IBM PC division. As IBM employee I get a deal on those and I have 4 people purchase laptops through me and they are really happy with them. They purchased the Thinkpad model T61's. Very durable and very nice laptops. I am not trying to steal your thunder Stumpy but I really like them and my neighbor had a Dell laptop XPS model for his buisness and there company went to Lenovo brand laptops because they are far more durable.

I think I would have an ingrained bias against Lenovo, Todd. Aren't they owned by the Chinese?

As far as I'm concerned, China is still a communist country and I prefer not to do anything to help the communists.

I recently bought a new XPS laptop from Dell and I must say, that durn thing has the worst speakers of any computer I've ever owned. Very "tinny" sounding and no hint of bass at all. This even though their XPS laptops are supposed to be "top of the line". I had an Inspiron laptop before the XPS (which I gave to my grandson who's going to Baylor) and the music playing on it didn't sound half-bad (though naturally not as good as that from my desktop). Anyway, just wanted to give everyone a heads-up in case they're thinking about buying an XPS laptop. (Yesterday, I ordered some small external speakers for the XPS)
