I used to live in Moab and La Sal back in 1955 when I was eight years old. Dead Horse Point is still my favorite area. Back then, there was no paved roads, no guard rails. You were on your own. I remember that every where you looked there were stacked rocks where people had uranium mining claims all over the area.
As we were leaving I remember seeing a dead mule off to the east of the then dirt road. What makes it more memorable was our old car would boil over the radiator when hot. The only extra water we had was a brown glass bleach bottle full of water. If we had gotten stranded, our bones might still be there.
It is fun to see how many movies had scenes filmed there. One film, SIEGE AT RED RIVER is supposed to take place in the Indian Nations (Oklahoma). A quick look shows it to be Dead Horse Point.
I go back every chance I get.
