Posts from The Ringo Kid in thread „Ummmm, ummmm good“

Thanks to all you for the support for me on this diet--which is much more than I get from any family members.

Thank you Sue, and your not nosy, and yep, im on this diet to drop some quick pounds because of an up-coming operation I need. Im not sure how much im supposed to lose yet-but should find out more on this, this Saturday.

My total daily calorie intake is from between 500-800 calories. Some days are going good, and some not so good. Im not sure why they will not let me eat lettuce? the cukes and celery apparently have too much water according to the dietician I saw. I will be addressing more issues with them on saturday though.

I was shocked when I was told of this diet. I THOUGHT that I would have to do a gradual decrease-which I have been tought is the healthier way.:glare:

Im gonna try to stay away from this topic for awhile

It's a liquid diet. I can have a drink-shake-as a meal for breakfast and lunch, then I can have one teenet tiney bread and skinless chicken breast (grilled) for supper. I THINK I can have carrots as nothing was said when I mentioned those. I wonder what they will say about me having a small salad-which encludes cabbage and tiny pieces of carrot?

The drink I have as a meal is called: EAS and comes in two flavors: Strawberry and Chocolate. The EAS drink aint bad tasting and is kinda filling but, it only keeps me just so for just so long and then WHAMMO--im starving. The only savings grace is the chicken breast I have for supper--which I purposely eat at about 10 PM so I don't get hunger pangs during the night.

With this, I eat a handfull of salad. I think they don't want me eating cucumbers andcelery because they contain so much water and don't "fill-the-void" very long. Actually, the salad helped me "fill-that-void" along with that handful of salad. I also had a serving of applesauce for a dessert--which is healthy as hell and I bet they would have something against that too--because it's made od apples. :glare:

If you're on a liquid diet, I can't think of nothing no better than a big ol' wallamelon to eat.

Also, I can't have, lunch meat (just bought $11.00 worth of Turkey-thinking that each slice is only 30 calories, no fats and that it was healthy but????) I can't have soup of anykind-even broth Grrrr, I can''t have anykind of fruit either Grrr--and I just bought several apples, two bunches of grapes, and a few containers of peaches. Grrrrr, of and, apparently I can't have celery or cucumbers--and on those, I CANT understand why? Grrrrr.

However, I can have, Spinach, aspharagus, broccoli and cauliflower--and I absolutely hate all four of those vegetables.

    Just kidding, just kidding.

And puhleeze, don't talk about real food (at least for the next 8 weeks) im on a stinking liquid diet and it aint going as well as I had thought. :stunned:

Ringo, a quick trip down to Schulenberg or Fredericksburg will take care of those German hankerings. I remember when I was 16, I ate some garlic infested sausagemacallit and couldn't stand myself for days on end. However, I've since grown accustomed to the rich foods and enjoy a run to the german deli every once in a while. One of the FEW benefits of living in Portland is the variety of places to eat I am currently enjoying the delicacy of Hand-Foot-Mouth disease that was home delivered to me from that great chain of eateries known as daycare. So as far as eating anything solid, I'm down to soup with soft crackers. Whodathunkit, a grown man getting this. Hope all is well with you.
    Bo

Hi Bo, I had completely forgotten about Fredericksburg. I used to have an Aunt & Uncle that lived there right off the lake and they had a small convience store there. They also were the only people anywhere near the area, that sold Billy Beer. Also, Fredericksburg has the distinction of being the place where I discovered; Hires Rootbeer--which is some very good stuff.

Sorry to hear that you not feeling well and hope you recover quickly. Some nice hot Chicken soup should help you out some. I had to do the soup thing, earlier last year when I had that stomach viris that was going around. Soup for two weeks and nothing much else.

I might try one sometime, but I don't know where I can get one around here.

Ya probably have to go to some big city to find a German restaurant. We used to have one here in CC-land called: The Edelweiss (which means) Eternally White and is named after the famous flower found in the Alpine Regions. Anyway, this restaurant went out of business and mainly all you can find here is mexican and chinese food. :(

Hi GT, oops, I guess I misunderstood your post ;-D WHEW! I was afraid that the South had lost ya.

But anyway, they look and taste like chicken fried steak. Also, I tried a nice Hackfleisch meal - which is roasted leg of Lamb with carrots, potatoes and maybe a few other veggies. Anyway, that was delicious too.

And when I want a hamburger, I WANT A HAMBURGER! And when I want a sausage, I WANT A SAUSAGE! And when I want a schnitzel(SP?) uh, I don't know what one of those is.:omg:

Hi GT, why don't you want a Schnitzel? You can choose between a Wienerschnitzel and a Jagerschnitzel. I had both when I was travelling in Germany and they both are very good. They both are like eating Chicken Fried Steak, only one comes with gravy and the other does not. :yeaahh: Don't tell me that you guys don't eat chicken fried steak! If not, then the South will never rise again. :uhoh:

Can't blame ya. I pass a DQ quite often but normally do not think of stopping there. Im usually on the way to some other eatery--like Cracker Barrel. Although, I did go there yesterday and had my first Oreo-Cookie Blizzard in about 22 years.

Well, looks like I will be going there much sooner than tomorrow afternoon. As soon as I leave the library tonight, DQ is my destination.

Gee, im beginning to wonder if DQ is not paying you and Jay to "advertise" for them? :D Well, if so, its working.

Dang it, NOW im going to have to make a special trip to DQ tomorrow just to buy something. With all this talk and all about it, you all are making my stomach rumble for DQ food. And don't start about Church's Chicken! ;-D

Oh and, all I like at Long John Silvers is their hushpuppies--so ramble all you might want about them. ;-))

Hi Bo, when you have a chance to be back in my neck-of-the-woods, ill have to introduce you to Wal-Bangers. Once you eat a Wal-Bangers Hamburger, you will wonder why you liked eating at Whataburger. ;-)) P.S. Rusty's Burgers suck--they are like balls of grease. Oh and, you might want to go to Nolan's Steakhouse--they have ABSOLUTELY THE BEST Poorboys one will ever eat. The Nolans that was on 6th street in Kingsville (near what is now--the old Police Station) closed down many years ago--but happily, they now have two restaurants here in the Corpus Christi area.

Ahhh Sonics, I remember them from Austin... Limeaide and Chili Cheese tots... can't be beat. I know there are a few here in Cali, the closest one that I know of is 90 miles away from me, and every once in a while I make the trip.

In Austin there was also another burger place that was really good. They had no place to eat at and two drive up windows, just can't remeber the name.

And their Limeaides are still most delicious as well as their Grape flavor. Also, the burger joint you miht be thinking of sounds like: Red-Line Burgers. They have the same set-up here as there. Well-used to, all of them close down here in CC, for some reason. Shame too, for a cheap place, their burgers were very decent.

Goodness Ringo, they opened a Sonic up here and you think that it is the best place in Oregon. Serious, an hour wait to get a burger. But you know I was in the line trying to get a taste of home. I really can't explain the pickle juice. I know it sounds like a pregnant woman on a binge, but .......nope, can't explain it. I'll be in Hawaii next month and we plan to stop at the original shaved ice place. I'll let you know how it is. I know what you mean about sweltering in the heat and humidity down there, but I would trade that for the wet and cold anytime. Good talking to you as always.
    Bo

Hi Bo, a Sonic in Oregon? I mean, like WOW because I hear those folks up there are more into fish and such and not the good healthy food like what Sonic serves. Anyway, one can't blame you for wanting a taste of home. In fact, I wish I could get Taqueria Aucapulco (SP?) to have a way to send you some of their Mexican food. Man they have soem pretty darn good Enchiladas, homemade flour tortillias, some pretty good fajitas. I also hear that the Mex food up that way is more of the vegetable variety and not the kind we have down here. Oh and, did I mention that they make a mean burrito?

If you guys have an: On The Border, restaurant there--they have some great fajitas as well.

Looking forward to hearing your revies for the shaved ice. They have not started to sell it here yet but, probably in the next few weeks im sure the stands will be up and running.

Ringo, I have fond memories of frito pie being served at every concession stand Friday nights during the football games. They used to slit open the side of a small bag of fritos and then pour the chili in followed by the cheese. In came the spork (actually a fork back then) and then garnish with whatever suited your needs. All for the amazing cost of $1. Of course a return trip was needed for the snow cone. I was the weird one that liked pickle juice poured over my ice. Only in Texas.
    Bo

Hi Bo, I remember those too. Also, I remember that at Sonics, that you can get Frito Pie there but is much too small an amount to fill ya up. Also, the way I fix it is much much better--you get more cheese and chili. In fact, I fixed a small can of this last night, and boy it sure tasted great. :D I might even have it again tonight if im not out of Wolf brand Chili.

I can't figure that one out though? Pickle juice over ice? I won't say :stunned: but, I might say :uhoh: Also, the snow cone sounds good, I have not had one in years. I remember last year I ALMOST bought one of those snowcone making machines from Wal-Mart but didn't. I think I will this year. Get one and take it to my balcony and just sit outside eating snow cones while everyone else is sweating profusely.

GT, if your hungry, try this simple recipe (mine) for Frito Pie.

1 can (whichever size) of Wolf Brand Chili (no beans) 4 slices of American Cheese and 1 bag (depending on the size of bag and how much you want to make) of Fritos.

Empty can of Wolf Brand Chili into sauce pan along with the cheese, turn on heat and stir until chili is hot and cheese is melted. When hot to suit you, add as many Fritos as you feel comfortable with, and mix all in until the fritos are coated with chili. The Fritos I use are the chili cheese fritos which really enhances the chili flavor.

Snag a plate or bowl from the cabinet, grab a spoon from the utensils cabinet, stick spoon into said pot of frito pie, take as many spoonfuls of contents and deposit them onto your plate/bowl, grab a TV tray sitting it in front of your chair facing the TV set, sit down in chair and get comfortable, grab spoonin one of your hands - scooping up a certain portion of the contents from said plate/bowl, gently guide your hand (with the spoon) slowly towards your mouth, part the teeth and lips, slide spoon into mouth; and let the tongue and teeth do the rest. :D

Anyway, as a batchelor, I often eat these fast, easy to make cheapie meals.
