Posts from Stumpy in thread „Film Critics“

I don't know what the critics have said about the latest James Bond movie, "Casino Royale", but I rented the disc last week and I can tell you it's a pretty good flick. And don't believe what they say about Craig....he makes an excellent Bond. Verrrrry bad dude, which is what a 007 is supposed to be. And the stuntwork which takes place in the first 10 or 15 minutes is amazing. You have to see it to believe it.

Another recently-released film which is pretty good, I think, is Clint's "Flags of Our Fathers". It has some of the most realistic battle scenes I've ever seen, including those in "Saving Private Ryan". The scenes that show the naval armada in the waters off Iwo Jima are awesome. Don't know how they did that unless it was some kind of computer-generated magic but I haven't seen that many ships in one place since we used to see those actual pictures of WW2 fleets.

    Hi Stumpy and all,
I agree with your points and don't trust critics much, but movies they are talking about in this article seems to be real bad, so critics are right to disgrace them. And their success at box office has nothing to do with the quality of these films.

    Senta

    Vera,
We've missed you - where ya been so long?

    Hi Jim

It goes the other way too. I have seen films raved about by the critics that were like watching paint dry.

How right you are. According to most film critics, "The Wild Bunch" is the greatest Western ever made. I can name dozens of Westerns I liked better, including 15 or 20 by our main man.

Glad they are having a hard time LOL

    Me too, Mike.

Taste is subjective or, put another way, "one person's trash is another person's treasure". I've read books and seen movies that I just loved. This after the critics had trashed 'em.
