Posts from dukefan1 in thread „Any baseball fans out there?“

I've been a big Baltimore Orioles fan since the early 70's when they were close to being a real dynasty. the last 13 years have been hard to bear and this year was the worst. They just stunk up the joint. But since we got Buck Showalter to manage the club this month, they have actually showed some life and I can watch them again with both eyes open. Never gave up on them, but they made it hard to watch for a while.

My Orioles are coming of 11 straight losing seasons. It's been hard to stay a fan, but a fan I am. So, yes, I am excited to smell the hotdogs, popcorn, cut grass and the sound of the ball off the bat. Plus the Orioles have actually made some serious moves to improve this off season and should start making a climb back to respectability. I can only hope.

Hey, arn't you going to miss that baggie out in right field when the Twins move to the new park?

I'm with you on this one, Jay. I have to root for the Rays. They are from my team's division. I am an Orioles fan, and I loved the Rays because they were the only thing keeping my Orioles out of last place these last ten years.

I'm glad to see them finally having their magical year. And it's always a plus when someone OTHER than the Yanks or Sox win our division!

Thank heaven the football season is coming. The Orioles are in such a nose-dive, it isn't funny. They've lost something like 14 out of the last 16 games. They gave up those 30 runs to Texas. They've given up 15 and 17 runs to the Devil Rays. When they go to the Bullpen for a relief pitcher, fans come out of the stands with bats, knowing they can hit off them. Reminds me of a joke:

A policeman saw a little boy walking on the side of the road by himself, and pulled over. He asked the boy if he was lost? The boy replied that he wasn't lost, he was running away from home. When inquired as to the reason, he said that his mommy beat him every time he was bad. The Officer asked him where he was running away to? The boy replied, "To Oriole Park at Camden Yards. I'm gonna live with the Orioles. They don't beat anyone." :hyper:

    Oh, the pain!

Yes Mrs. C. Take it from a die-hard Baltimore Oriole fan (me :cry2: ) , that was not at all fun to watch and was a horrific game that just wouldn't end. And it was the first game of a double-header. They had to play a game 20 minutes after that one ended. My Orioles wound up losing that one also, 9 to 7. :cry2: :cry2: :cry2: Not enough tears could be shed to ease that pain.

But hey, it was historic! No team had ever given up that many runs since 1900. Texas had 2 grand slams, two 3-run homers and a whole bunch of other hits. And all those runs were earned, no errors added to them.

Thank goodness they left town, they were getting tired from running all those bases. :stunned:

I'll have to admit, SXviper, that my Orioles losing three against the Twins to open the year hurt like sin. But the best medicine for such pain was taking 2 out of 3 against those dreaded Yankees:glare: . We would have taken all three, but our bullpen had a momentary collapse and A-Rod became a hero. Oh well....bring on the Tigers!

P.S: I heard a good line about the Twins that summed up that series perfect! mind you, I may not quote it per word, but the meaning remains..."The Twins are like Pahranas (sp?). They keep nipping at you and the next thing you know, you're bleeding to death."

    Hello again, gt12pak

I need to correct my previous post. The Iron Birds are affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles, not the Braves. Which team are you talking about Ripken owning? I didn't know he had more than one team. Baseball's been very, VERY good to him!

    Hello gt12pak,

You're talking about the Aberdeen Iron Birds. I live about 20 minutes from Ripken Stadium, where they play. A real nice park sitting right off of I-95 in Aberdeen. They are building a miniature Camden Yards and a miniature Memorial Stadium in the same complex that will be used for Little League teams.

I work in the Printing Business and my company sometimes prints letterheads, scheduals and other stuff for the Iron Birds. We even printed their Christmas cards last year.

I heard on the news that Aberdeen is looking to sell Ripken Stadium and that Cal's company, The Tufton Group, is looking into buying it. Baseball has been very good to him.

I've always been a Baltimore Orioles fan. It's getting harder every year to get excited about the coming season knowing the my birds hold little hope of competing with those hated Yankees. For the last few years, Boston has gotten into spending big money just to keep pace in the division.

Our pitching looks good, but they still need to prove they can be consistant. I hope this is the year Danial Cabrera finds his groove. That man has one heck of a pitching arm on him:hyper: . He just needs to stop losing the strike zone.

This is the year Cal Ripken Jr. goes into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. He got the third highest vote of all time getting in. I sure miss watching him play. I was at the park the night he tied Lou Gherig for the most consecutive games played streak. It was electric.

He got his 3000th hit against your Twins in the Dome, SXViper. He needed 3 hits that night, and got them! If my Orioles can't get it done this year, I hope your Twins do. I've always liked them also.
4 more days, and its......PLAY BALL!!!!!
