Posts from The Ringo Kid in thread „Pet Peeves“

One of my biggest pet peeves is when I see a baby Diaper thrown onto the ground in a parking lot, in a street or inside the walkway of some building. I have also seen a hispanic female change the diaper on its kid and threw it out the car window and I went picked it up and tossed it back into her lap. She sped away and threw it out into the street. I called the cops with plate info,

Supposedly we have a similar volunteer group here in San Antonio, but I haven't seen any evidence of them.
BTW - another one of my pet peeves is people who park straddling two parking spaces. They don't seem to have time to adjust to park within the lines.

AMEN to that Jay, and that too is a big peeve of mine. It makes me so mad that I almost feel like keying their car-or slashing a few tires. I restrain myself as im no troublemaker-well, not much of one;-))

Hi Jay, thats something thats rampant in Corpus Christi. However, a few years ago the City was actually starting to enforce Handicap parking by actually sending out a trained Civilian volunteer team, to go out and take a polaroid pic of someones vehicle wrongfully parked in a handicapped space, and the other part of the team has the powers to write and issue a ticket. I first saw this happen when I was going to a Drs appointment which eventually led to my surgery last year. I happened to be looking out the 5th floor window, and saw a cop car cruising the parkinglot. I saw it stop and two people got out and one took a picture of the illegally parked car-while the other verified if the car was one that belonged to a handicapped person or not? then once verified by radio dispatch-the guy wrote out a ticket and placed it on the drivers side windshield. I wa so glad to see that happen and I got their attention by waving in the window and gave them both thumbs up.

I've sen people driving a car with a handicap tag hanging on the mirrow, and they were not handicapped nor was the handicapped person in the car-when they parked in a space at HEBs and or Wal-Mart. I thought of volunteering my time to do this too. I might check into doing that when I move back to Corpus Christi-hopefully in less than 9 months time.

    I hate Houston.

Get this, a friend of mine bought one of those expensive TV sets--thin screen ones. Tom mounted it to his livingroom wall which certainly makes more space. Anyway, I was over there a few Sundays ago--cooking dinner for he, his Girlfriend and I, and the set was on. I thought it interesting to see the TV set had some sort of lights behind it which changed colors when watching any program.

OK, we sat down for dinner and Tom had put a DvD he had just bought ($1.00 dvd w/ 4 John Wayne westerns on it) and the lights still changed from light to dark etc. Anyway, for a cheap $1.00 dvd, that TV set really did it much justice. I almost felt like I was in a theater watching John Wayne on the big screen and it was really nice.

All that aside--I have a "Circuit City Special" for a TV set. Including tax, I paid the tidy sum of about $80.00 bucks. I was not trying to be cheap at that time and bought this set because of lack of room in the livingroom (I live in a 1 bedroom apt) and it aint a big apartment.

Anyway, I can't justify (if I had the funds of course) spending $3,000 for a TV set (like Tom spent and to each his own) and like Stumpy, would rather have a vehicle to drive and enjoy.

However, that position may change in the next few years - when I expect to more than have funds to toss around for such pleasures. I have a "13" inch Color set--sound lacks (as I expected) but I do get the entertainment from it that it was designed for.

Back in 1988, we did have one of those huge big screen sets. I think we paid around $3,000 or so for it and it was nice. I enjoyed watching tons of programs while we had that set.

Thank you and I completely agree with you. Also, same garbage is floating around here thanks to the naacp trying to "stir" up the poorer sections of town - known as: The Cuts.

Well said Stumpy, Dakota, GT, Todd, all.

I feel exactly as was posted here about PC. I AINT PC and never will be either. If someone cannot stand a few words--the heck w/ them. That PC garbage is the ruin of it all.

Dakota, Archie Bunker was great wasn't he? Damn I sure miss the character. Was not afraid to speak his mind and cared nothing for an idiots opinion of him--as the way it should be.

GT, sharpton and jackson both, are blowhards.

Todd, about why more people don't listen to Will Smith or Bill Cosby is because, they are afraid to hear the truth. I have great respect for both of those Gentlemen. Cosby is now known in the black community, as one who has "gone white" as sharpton said not too long ago. I think sharpton is just jealous that Cosby was smart enough to earn his wealth. Isn't it one of the 10 Commandments that says something in the lines of: "One should not covet thy neighbors property?" or something along those lines? Oh al, is breaking a commandment. So much for being a "Man-of-the-cloth-and-a-man-of-God."

Your just picking on the poor French again!! :stunned: I would say California 20 years ago for PC. Where was Sheryl Crow's (1 tissue of toilet paper) mother then!!!

The French did give us the guilotine. Shame we didnt take it up that option.

    Heh heh heh, oops ;-D

I would almost bet that it all started in B~E~R~K~E~L~E~Y~ without much doubt. :glare:

Actually, did not the PC thing originate in France about 100 or so years ago? Not that im making fun of the French or anything but, that's what I have been led to believe.

    Was that a double post???

Only by accident. I tried to edit the first post, then it dissappeared, then I posted another only to find the first posting there. I tried to get into it and edit it but it will not let me do so.

Moderators, please delete my post I made to Dakota at 5:14 PM.

Thanks and best regards -- Carl.

    Well, my last post dissappeared.

Dakota, I fully agree with you. During early voting and dunring election day, the local TV stations interviewed many people asking if they were going to vote, had voted and if not, why not?

Some VERY lame excuses included: "I did not vote because I was studying for a test, I had a Drs appt, I was sick, I did not want to stand in a long line (heck--there were no long lines) etc etc. Yet, these are the people who will be the first to complain when somehting happens they do not like.

When the 2000 Pres election came up--I stood in a long line for over 2 hrs to place my vote. I also had been very sick with a bad case of the Flu and sick as heck - and shivering and with fever. Yet, I still voted.

Dakota, I fully agree with you. I can't see what reason that can be used that is good enough for one to not vote? I can understand if one is at a funeral/away on vacation or something like that.

They played on the local news stations, amny replies to the question of: Did you vote? and if not, why not?

Some VERY lame excuses were: I was studying for an exam, I had to work, I did not want to stand in line, I was sick, I had a Drs appt, and many stupid replies like that. And yet, THOSE will be the first people to complain when something happens they do not like.

And I have been saying for many years now, that if one does not vote at all, then those jerks will never be voted out of office and the people who do not vote; do not have a right to complain.

Case in point, the recent city elections here in Corpus Christi. ONLY 10% of the eligable voters - voted; which really singes my a** I voted early to avoid what should have been-long lines. I went in to vote, took about 3-5 minutes time tops. That is from first arriving, to having ones voter registration checked, to casting my votes and then leaving.

To slightly change something that Rich Little recently said--as he was doing his impression of the late Johnny Carson: "I walked into this bar angry as hell. I walked up to the bar and sat on a stool. I pounded my fist onto the bar yelling that All Politicians are A**holes. The person I was sitting next to said: "I resent that, im an A**hole."

The word politician was changed for the word lawyer.

They should give you one of those old style parking ticket scooters and go around Corpus and give out tickets. I think we used to call them Meter Maids.

That civil academy sounds like a good idea. I may have to talk to the Chief here and see what he thinks. We have a horrible problem with students running stop signs. We have a University here with 15,000 students and they are the rudest people I know. They run stop signs like there's nothing there. I'd run around town and write tickets.

Hi Dakota. We have Metermaids as well and they still drive those golfcarts around. Mainly though, they only go around parts of Downtown around some businesses and the Courthouses and nowhere else.

I fully support their academy and I might start to attend their classes after I beat soem of my health issues. I would love to write out parking tickets to those who openly and knowingly, park in the wrong spaces.

I definately know what you mean about those college students, we have about as many here in Corpus Christi as well. For the most part, the students here arent so bad but, there are enough of them that are.

Earlier today, I was driving my roommate to the Spohn Shoreline Hospital and was cut off by two drivers sppeding out in rapid secession, from the Del Mar West Campus parkinglot. Damn near hit me and I swerved and hit the curb. Neither one of them cared for what they did and what happened. I lost a hubcap in the process. If the light had not turned red (one ran through it) I would have chased him down.

Same way in Illinois... I was just using a placard but I lost it twice because it kept blowing off the rear view mirror hanger. So I got plates for my truck and put the placard in the wife's car. It actually bothers my wife more since she's been a nurse for 24 years. She has marched up to the customer service counter numerous times at Wally World and complained and she comes away madder after the fact since they won't do anything.

The rules are the same here... for instance I would have to exit the vehicle to use the spaces. It's like if we went somewhere and I wasn't going to get out of the vehicle we couldn't use a designated spot since she is the only one getting out. We can only use it when I am getting out.

I've seen many people have the placard or plates and are perfectly fine. I even approached this old guy once that parked in the only space left around our square. My wife and I knew it was his wife that was handicapped not him and she wasn't even in the vehicle. I told him I was handicapped and needed the space, he said I have a plate too but I said your not the one handicapped and it's against the law. He uttered some un-repeatabled phrases and walked off. So I called the police and they came, and he got a really nice present... he got a ticket that could be worth $250. I went to his traffic court appearance because I knew he'd try to beat it. The judges asked him some things like how often does your wife come with you and he said, never. Judge asked, does your wife even live with you? He said no, she's in a nursing home now and can't get out (bad hip I think). Judge asked, then why do you still have the plate, he said to run errands for her. Judge said that was even a worse offense, perjury to a state official to get a handicapped plate. The judge changed the fine to $1,000 and ordered him to get a new plate in 7 days. And to surrender the old plates to the court.

Here in Corpus Christi, that is starting to change a bit about non handicapped folks parking in handicapped spaces.

We recently got a new Police Chief (Bryan Smith) who unofficilly had been running the P.D. for several more months.

I used to shop at the H.E.B. store on Leopard street, but quit because ALL and I mean ALL< the handicapped spaces were always being taken by those who were not. H.E.B. has security guards--tell them about the violations and they do NOTHING about it. Well, times are starting to change on that.

The Corpus Christi P.D. has a Citizens Academy. Any person can go to it (as long as they are not a wanted felon/fugitive) and you go through some classes of sorts and you also get tested driving a police car. After you have done your citizens academy time, you get paired with another person and are set loose on the city. One person will carry a Polaroid Camera, the other is armed with a clipboard and a book of tickets.

Well, about six months ago, I was at one of my many Drs appointments. I happened to be looking out the window from several stories up and noticed a cop car crusing through the parkinglot. I saw it stop and two people got out (wearing civvy clothes) and I at first thought they were Detectives or someone like that. Turns out that they had recently graduated from that citizens academy and were actually enforcing that law of no parkling in the handicapped spaces.

Im not sure what the fine is here but I think it is $500.00. Anyway, I cheered them on when they left a "gift" on some persons truck--who I had remember seeing when they drove in and parked. Later that day, there were news stories on TV that talked about the C..A. program and that several pairs of graduates were set loose on the city to enforce the parking law.

Even though I am handicapped, I do not use the spaces myself. I also think it is a great law and am thinking that I might go to that citizens academy--as the handicapped parking violators have always been a pet peeve of mine.

Since I no longer attend movies at the theater, disturbances there bother me not at all. I just wait until the DVDs are released and watch them in the peace and quiet of my home. Lot cheaper too.

I was considering doing the same thing in no longer going to theaters. Rumor has it that a group of investors have gotten together and are going to renovate the old Ritz Theater which is located downtown here in C.C. They are supposedly going to show only classics from what I have heard.

Try going to a pack theater where they were showing at that time, Saving Private Ryan. I was forces to sit next to a lady who would not keep her trap shut and EVERYTIME--all the way through the movie, whenever an explosion went off, or they showed any blood, she would shout: "Ma God, O-MY-GOD, M-God." She ruined the movie for me and I came back about 2 weeks later to see it when the movie was not so packed. Was better the 2nd time.

Same thing happened when I went to go see "Titanic" as well.
