A few states have passed a law forbidding the use of a cell phone while driving but not Texas. We don't have a national law like you do in the UK, Rob. Over here, many such laws have to be passed at state level and I agree with that concept, even though Texas politicians haven't passed such a law. One of the big problems (or blessings, depending on one's point of view) in Texas is that the state legislature only convenes every two years so getting laws passed that you want can be a difficult and lengthy process. I've written the people who supposedly represent me several times beseeching them to help pass such a law but so far, without success.

As you know, Stumpy, our Texas legislature is mostly a big joke. They keep bickering among themselves and still haven't come up with a viable education program in the many years they have been supposedly working on one!

Unlike probably 90% of the people in this world, I hate cell phone usage, particularly by drivers. Which means when I travel in a vehicle, I usually stay mad because you see so damned many people driving while blabbing on those contraptions. You'll never convince me that any topic you can think of is so important that it can't wait until you reach home to call or at a minimum, pull over to the side of the road to talk.

Hey Stumpy - I'm like you - I hate cellphones and won't be caught dead with one! It has been proved that using a cellphone while driving is equivalent to having several beers in one's system. I've noticed these idiots driving away and yakking having very little awareness of what is going on around them.:glare:

Very close however its actually Hillary. Now I realise that she it not very popular on this forum but one should remember her many achievements. This is a lady who acted with great honour and style many times when she was first lady at the white house. During Mr. Clinton's infidelities etc she has remained a rock providing strong support to her husband when he may not have deserved it, and this ultimately proved advantageous to the entire USA.
It is also difficult to ignore the strong leadership she is offering in her election campaign. She has been the underdog for most of the campaign and has battled this tag with much success and one gets the feeling that she may triumphant in the end and deservedly so in my opinion.
However it should also be noted that if you believe anything I have written above you will believe anything.

Wow!!! For a minute there, I thought this board was making a serious turn to the left.:glare: I had a sinking feeling in my stomach until I read your last paragraph. Don't get me so worked up, Robbie.

I think I'll send OBL an email and tell 'im the City Hall here should be al Qaeda's next target.

I hope the city of Berkley is the first to slide into the sea when the BIG earthquake hits California (We'll get Chester and Co. out of harm's way before that happens)!!!

Something that never ceases to amaze me is the number of huge RVs you see on the road. I mean, every time I get out and about, I see literally dozens of those things, all towing a car or SUV, usually something expensive. How in the devil do people afford to drive those things?

Probably like a lot of other things - they lucked out and have those things subsidized by the government.

Do you see the automobile manufacturers even making an attempt at fuel-conserving cars. Not this half-hearted attempt at battery-powered and ethanol-powered vehicles, but just smaller and more economical cars. All I see advertised are huge trucks and SUVs. They're pushing these gas-guzzlers to the max!

Spears is too dysfunctional to be believed. She has let notoriety and wealth go to her head. Between the drugs and disassociative brain episodes, this girl is a lost cause and may never regain any semblance of normalty.:glare:

I agree completely! I only watch the "Law and Order" and "CSI" franchises plus a few other police oriented shows. Other than that, the programming on TV is just garbage:tounge_smile:

5 times the mass of the Earth and 1.5 times the radius; assuming the measures are accurate we would weigh about 2.2 times that than here on Earth - bearable, but I would certainly prefer a planet slightly less dense than Earth

Bearable for a while, but wouldn't want to deal with it continuously.
    Cheers - Jay:beer:

Sounds like, if the density of the planet is considerably more than earth's, we could expect to weigh a lot more than we do here:ohwell: . Maybe Weightwatchers could develop a commercial on this.:hyper:
