Posts from ethanedwards in thread „Random Observations“

Each week I receive an emailed newsletter from a man in Ardmore, OK who maintains a website called Oklahoma History. The newsletter is nearly always interesting. This week's edition contained a link to another website that had some photos taken around 1900. The clarity of these pictures is absolutely amazing, considering that they're more than a hundred years old.

I've always been an avid student of American history so I enjoyed looking at these pictures very much. I imagine there are others here who also enjoy American history and old pictures.

Fascinating photos for us in the UK as well, thanks Jim,
perhaps you could start a separate thread, and place these old images there?

Thought you would like this I saw on our
friends the 'Save the Quiet Man Cottage' site.

In the UK it's now about £3.80 a pint.
When The Quiet Man was made in 1951, it was 5p.!!!

Just wanted to express my sincere sympathy to our friend Popol Vuh of Norway for the terrible tragedy that has struck your homeland. That's awful.

    Popol Vuh,
The same goes for me, and thanks to Jim
    for making his post.
Good to hear from you again,
even though it is in such sad circumstances

    Jim,
As Mike says, I am unaware of any dubbing of American films.
We do sometimes have a problem say with a Brooklyn accent
as in DeNiro. 'Ny Jisey' (New Jersey) for example!!
People who are not from the areas,
    have problems here as well,
for example non Scots, understanding Scottish,
and people from the south understanding 'Geordie'
from the North East, Newcastle etc.
So I guess we all have our own quirks when It comes to dialects!

i worked it out we pay just over US$5 a US gallon now if they put it up much more we could be paying nearly US$6

    Jim, hold your breath,
    in the UK,
it works out at $7.94 a US gallon,
    and in Greece
where I just spent six weeks it is
    $8.88 a gallon.

Wait til you have to cope with those prices!!

Thank you all for your lovely comments,
and I appreciate your kind words and support.

My involvement with the JWMB is one of personal satisfaction and pleasure.
It's great, just to be able to chat and and exchange information
with like minded fans, without personal backgrounds being an issue.
I feel, that we have all made this forum a much better place,
and a community so worthwhile belonging to.

    Jim and Jim,

    No need for apologies though,
it's something that I do, but don't shout it out everywhere!

Thank you so very much for your lovely comments.
I am very honoured to have you as friends.
