Now here's an example of wonderful automotive art. This is back when cars had character. Now they all look alike.
Beautiful Jim, just stunning -
Well, today is D-Day. The 1944 day that WW2 allies landed in Normandy and began the process of defeating Hitler's Nazis.
Thanks for this post Jim, and a reminder of this
one of the most important days in history. Here are the links to a couple of threads,
that relate to how our small part of the worldOperation Tiger (D-Day landings rehearsal 1944)
Torquay, the US 4th Light Infantry and D-Day Landings -
If you're referring to yourself as a "foreigner", Art, you shouldn't. For many years, most Americans' ancestral roots lay in Great Britain. Including my own.
Jim,
Sorry Arthur is a foreigner,
he lives in Portsmouth!! -
Each week I receive an emailed newsletter from a man in Ardmore, OK who maintains a website called Oklahoma History. The newsletter is nearly always interesting. This week's edition contained a link to another website that had some photos taken around 1900. The clarity of these pictures is absolutely amazing, considering that they're more than a hundred years old.
I've always been an avid student of American history so I enjoyed looking at these pictures very much. I imagine there are others here who also enjoy American history and old pictures.
Fascinating photos for us in the UK as well, thanks Jim,
perhaps you could start a separate thread, and place these old images there? -
Great collection Jim, well put together
-
It's a good thing I'm no longer in the military or I'd be in the brig.
Crazy world Jim!! -
Truer words were never spoken.
Great article, some good words said about the great man,
and bad words about the jerks who don't even come up to his knees! -
Thought you would like this I saw on our
friends the 'Save the Quiet Man Cottage' site.In the UK it's now about £3.80 a pint.
When The Quiet Man was made in 1951, it was 5p.!!! -
Just wanted to express my sincere sympathy to our friend Popol Vuh of Norway for the terrible tragedy that has struck your homeland. That's awful.
Popol Vuh,
The same goes for me, and thanks to Jim
for making his post.
Good to hear from you again,
even though it is in such sad circumstances -
Jim,
As Mike says, I am unaware of any dubbing of American films.
We do sometimes have a problem say with a Brooklyn accent
as in DeNiro. 'Ny Jisey' (New Jersey) for example!!
People who are not from the areas,
have problems here as well,
for example non Scots, understanding Scottish,
and people from the south understanding 'Geordie'
from the North East, Newcastle etc.
So I guess we all have our own quirks when It comes to dialects! -
Today is the 67th anniversary of D-Day, when the forces of good invaded Europe to oust the forces of evil.
Yes indeed Jim, something we shall all be grateful for.

Thank you all for your lovely comments,
and I appreciate your kind words and support. My involvement with the JWMB is one of personal satisfaction and pleasure.
It's great, just to be able to chat and and exchange information
with like minded fans, without personal backgrounds being an issue.
I feel, that we have all made this forum a much better place,
and a community so worthwhile belonging to. -
My gosh, I feel like the world's biggest dummy.
First of all, I want to offer Keith (ethan) a very sincere apology. I did not know, until today, that not only is he one of the hardest working contributors to this board but he is also an extremely accomplished musician who is a well-known and honored celebrity in his homeland.
For the very first time today, while looking through Keith's public profile, I discovered and brought up his website. While looking through the site, I learned that Keith is a prolific songwriter and singer who has been well-known in the UK for many years. I listened to some of the songs Keith has available on the site and I'm telling you folks, he is one helluva guitar player and singer. And like the dumbass I am, I never knew that until today. Please forgive me, Keith.
Anyway, Duke fans, I urge you to also visit Keith's home page and listen to some of the fabulous music he belts out. He's very talented.Jim and Jim,
No need for apologies though,
it's something that I do, but don't shout it out everywhere!Thank you so very much for your lovely comments.
I am very honoured to have you as friends.
