Trailer for a new movie, The Widow's Might

There are other videos on YouTube regarding the movie.

I think quite a folks here would enjoy this film. It is in a very limited release, in just a few theaters. I would definitely see it if it was anywhere near us (which it isn't :cry2:). If any of you folks make it to a showing, please let us know how it is.

I went with the kids to the theater this afternoon and saw Disney/Pixar's latest release, Bolt.

When I saw trailers for this film, I was not that impressed. I read a review that at least led me to believe I wouldn't hate it.

All I can say is, if you have kids you have NO excuse to not see this movie, and if you are childless, I can tell you there were actually more adults than children in the theater. TOTALLY appropriate for the kids, and enjoyable for everyone! Excellent graphics (would we expect anything less from Pixar?) and a well-done story line that highlights the importance of friendship and loyalty. I really enjoyed watching the cat teach the dog all the ins and outs of being a dog (hey, he's led a sheltered life!).

    I heartily recommend it!!

I see Appaloosa has gathered $9,000,000 dollars so far at the box office with very little coverage. Any one seen it ? Any opinions?

I don't remember having heard of it before, but it sounds pretty decent, based on at least one review I read (not for the kids due to language and violence, however). It just opened at a local theater, so maybe we'll have a chance to see it. We'll let you know if we do!

Anybody going to the movies this weekend? I think An American Carol might be of interest to some of us here . . . .

Pretty interesting article, and I'm sure if Duke was still alive, there would be much with which he could identify.

Hopefully this starts a long line of western's.

    Amen, Brother Todd.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

I think the release of another Western is a VERY good thing, and bodes well for the genre. Every one that has come out has done fairly well - I don't think any of them bombed - Open Range, 3:10 to Yuma . . . goin' blank now, but I'm sure there have been others in recent years . . . . They don't come out often, but when they do . . .

Atonement is showing in one theater in our county, There Will Be Blood is not being shown at all. Usually movies receive hype before they are released, not after. There is nothing in the advertising that makes me want to see run out and see either one, so that makes the advertising even more annoying to me.

    Chester :newyear:

Not only have we not seen it, we had never heard of it until you brought it up here.

Has anyone been hearing incessant radio advertisements for the movie There Will Be Blood? It's been out in the theaters for some time now, but the ads are making me crazy. Of course, as you might imagine, it's been nominated for more than one Oscar, so maybe that's why it's being pushed so hard.

The ads were flying fast and furious a couple of weeks ago for Atonement, same thing, ads for a movie that was already in theaters.

    Anybody seen either one?

My wife and I went to see the new National Treasure movie tonight.

The Mrs. and three of our kids went to see National Treasure last night. They all enjoyed it very much - plenty of excitement and suspense, and they enjoyed the historical connections as well.

    Todd,

I hadn't noticed the reference to The Golden Compass in the post I quoted in my post, but thank you for pointing out your concerns regarding that movie. I have been aware of it for over a month now, but I appreciate you sharing that Snopes link for others. I have been sharing it with all my friends.

From your friendly neighborhood moderator -
If anyone would like to discuss this film further, I would suggest keeping it to the chat room or PMs, please. Thanks, Todd, for your concern in that regard as well.

I can live without The Simpsons but there are a few movies I want to see yet this year...

    • The Bourne Ultimatium
    • Underdog
    • Stardust (Saw the trailer yesterday... excellent, sort of like Narnia)
    • Halloween (Remake of the original... have to wait to see the trailer)
    • 3:10 to Yuma (Not sure what to think of it yet)
    • The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Another western)
    • Saw 4
    • Darfur ( I hope this movie wakes up some countries)
    • Enchanted
    • The Golden Compass
    • AVP2
    • National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (Nicholas Cage... it will be good)

I thought I'd revive this thread, as it kind of got buried. There are plenty of new movies out, and I'm sure our members are going to see them.

We have seen Underdog, 3:10 to Yuma, and Enchanted.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but Enchanted was a sweet parody/homage to many of the Disney movies over the years (going as far back as Snow White). EXCELLENT family fare, but with enough references to hold the interest of adults (without being "adult," if you know what I mean). Unless you absolutely hate musicals, you will probably enjoy the film. It's not a musical per se, but it has that aspect to it (with plenty of pokes at the genre). Personally, I REALLY enjoyed it. Our eleven year old son and grandson thought it was a little corny, but they liked it as well. The other adult who was with us enjoyed it very much. I might have to go back to see it with my 9 year old daughter (I think she'll like it).

We saw the trailer for National Treasure 2, and are really looking forward to seeing it in a few weeks! It looks very exciting and full of action and suspense!

So anyway, let's make good use of this thread again. Try to not get off into side conversations too much (real interesting side discussion? take it to another thread and follow through).

At least among our family members, Pirates was not liked. Our grandson called us while we were in Arizona, to tell us to not bother with it. Just this past weekend, we were visiting with our oldest son and he said the same thing.

We don't go to the movies too often, so we probably won't be the first to offer thoughts on current movies, but we will check this out before we go . . . and if we do make it to the cinema, we'll post.
