Posts from DakotaSurfer in thread „New Movie Discussion“

The wife and I sat down and watched Wild Hogs the other night and I watched Live Free, Die Hard yesterday afternoon.

Tim Allen was good in Wild Hogs. The new Die Hard movie is much more hi-tech. I'd probably go a 2½ starts on both out of a possible 4. Both are not great but good entertainment.

I'm wanting to see Underdog and the Bourne Ultimatum as soon as I re-watch the first two movies. The wife wants to see Hairspray (gag) and I'm not a Simpson fan.

I liked some of the "Living Dead" movies. If I remember right it was in "Day of the Dead" when a farmer and his son are sitting on haybales and shooting at zombies and one of the kids keeps hitting them in the body but the keep getting back up and the dad says"No no no, you have to shoot them in the head like this....Boom!!!"

I know for the people that don't like these types of movies it sounds bad but if you watch them in the right context they can be rather funny. Atleast that is how I have watched them.

The original was the B&W movie Night of the Living Dead by George Romero where this couple is at a cemetery and the guy is playing around saying "They are coming to get you Barbara" because she was scared of the cemetery. Then out of the blue the zombie comes after them and kills the guy she runs and holds up at a farm house with some other people. Then it went into sequels. If it's a Romero movie it's good. The other spin-offs were pretty much crap. I think there were three sets of spin-offs and you could probably count this as a 4th. I like the vampire one with George Clooney called From Dusk Till Dawn. The more blood and guts the better.

I saw that movie I think. Did 28 Days later end with a military action in a church or something? I might be wrong, just trying to remember.

28 Days Later had some people make it out of the city and end up I think it was a school but the diseased goth through the lines and made it there too so I think it shows one or two that actually made it out alive. It's a good gross horror movie if you like those. Lind of along the lines of Return of the Living Dead. Like you have to shoot them in the head to kill them if not they keep coming type movie. I don't even know if the second movie is out yet but I got a screener which I get to basically critique it so it doesn't even have the title on the movie but it's called a working title.

The last 3 Star Wars movies were fairly recent and I don't want to crunch any more numbers than I have to. Onto another movie... I just got the screener for 28 Weeks Later which is the sequel to 28 Days Later. So far so good... really bloody and gory. Just the way I like them.

He knows an icon when he sees one. Duke has always been pretty popular in the UK probably because of Maureen and others that were in the old westerns that came from the UK. At least he's not one of the new generation that says, "who's that?" Unfortunate for Ratcliff, I think after the HP movies are over so is his career. He will be stuck in that role for the rest of his life. Much like others are that stick with one role for several years. I would hope that he goes from the last movie to maybe a set of speaking engagements and then take a few years off. Then maybe he could pop out in a new role of some sort. But at least he has excellent taste knowing who John Wayne is.

I can live without The Simpsons but there are a few movies I want to see yet this year...

    • The Bourne Ultimatium
    • Underdog
    • Stardust (Saw the trailer yesterday... excellent, sort of like Narnia)
    • Halloween (Remake of the original... have to wait to see the trailer)
    • 3:10 to Yuma (Not sure what to think of it yet)
    • The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Another western)
    • Saw 4
    • Darfur ( I hope this movie wakes up some countries)
    • Enchanted
    • The Golden Compass
    • AVP2
    • National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (Nicholas Cage... it will be good)

The wife and I saw the new HP movie... Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

It was a damn good movie, but I've liked all of them. I can sort of see the way this series will probably go. I'm waiting like everyone is to read the final book. But I think this will be the second longest movie series that will make any decent money beside Star Trek that has gone 10 movies, soon to be 11. Star Wars only went 6 movies. I don't count movies like Friday the 13th Part 8. I really think overall, the HP movies will probably bring in more money than the Star Trek series and maybe the Star Wars series of movies. I'd give this movie 3 stars.

I was more impressed with Evan Almighty than I was Fantastic 4. We have a crappy theater so we never got any of the new movies this weekend so now we have to wait. Anyone can own a gun, shove it in a drawer and not worry about it but what good does it do if you don't practice every so often. An intruder shows up and you drag out that old rusty gun and either shot yourself or the robber in the foot. Of if the gun is jammed it can blow up in your face. I may watch Live Free Die Hard today sometime.

I forgot to post this... wife had to work on Sunday afternoon so I went to the F4 Silver Surfer. Wasn't too bad... I'd probably give it 2½ stars out of 4. Special effect were decent although they do depend on that in these kinds of movies. Nice part it was short also... only 95 minutes and so was Evan Almighty. May go see Ratatouille tomorrow. I will NOT go see Sicko... the only thing sick in that movie is the director.

Had the wife's 30th Class Reunion this weekend but this afternoon we found the chance to get to the movies. In particular, we went to "Evan Almighty". On a scale of 1 - 4 stars with 1 being crap and 4 being great. I would have to give this 3½ stars. It was one of the best comedy movies I've seen in awhile.

Morgan Freeman would give George Burns a run for his money playing God. I also have to say this one was better than the first. Maybe because I'm not a real Jim Carrey fan but this one is worth every penny.

    Tomorrow... Silver Surfer

When the wife and I were in Winterset the Sunday afternoon show got too hot for me so we left without seeing it and went back to the hotel. I knew it was opening weekend for Pirates 3 so we ate supper and went to this huge 20-plex theater and they had two shows that were High-Def so we went to one of those and it was amazing but I did think it was way too long. And your right, the end was a bit disappointing. I hope F4 Silver Surfer is better and we may go see Evan Almighty tomorrow with back-to-back movies.

btw... you may get an email. Don't buy any JW movies for a few days until you get your package.

We do a lot of discussing about Duke's movies but I think we need an area where we can chat about the new movies that have come out. Sorta like, Ocean's Thirteen is out, what did people think about it? If someone comes back from Evan Almighty or Fantastic Four - Silver Surfer, give us a review. I know it would help me decide whether or not to waste the time and money or wait to see it on PPV for $4. I'm kind of looking forward to Evan Almighty.
